Nelly’s “Dilemma” video reaches 1 billion YouTube views
Despite being almost 20 years old, Nelly’s “Dilemma” video has reached 1 billion views on youtube. “It is both humbling and what every artist hopes for, to see your work from 20 years ago still getting such love from fans old and new,” Nelly said in an official statement responding to the news of the video’s milestone.
History Of The Video
In 2002, the Grammy Award-winning duet topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 10 weeks. Two albums contain the song. The song appears on Nelly’s album, “Nellyville.” The second time it appears is on Kelly Rowland’s solo album, “Simply Deep.”
In the video, directed by Benny Boom, Rowland’s mom is played by R&B legend Patti Labelle. The Nimrods produced the song, derived from LaBelle’s 1984 hit “Love, Need, and Want You.” Written by Kenneth Gamble and Bunny Sigler, the song was based on a sample of that song. Ryan Bowser, who won the GRAMMY for producing and co-directing the video, directs and produces “Dilemma.”
In 2002, the rapper met a friend on the “TRL” tour. According to Davis, “he wanted Kelly [Rowland] from the start.” “He knew what kind of sound he wanted.”
