On March 9th, the news broke The Nick Cannon Show was canceled. At the time, many chalked the announcement up to rumor. However, a day later, Nick Cannon confirmed the cancellation of the show in a sit-down with Breakfast Club host Angela Yee .
Cannon’s Response
Honorably, his response was a well-crafted reaction indicative of acceptance. In Cannon’s words,
“This is show business, right?”
Inarguably, Cannon is correct. Show business is a fickle undertaking. One moment you can be on the summit and another moment off the air. Unfortunately, Cannon has succumbed to the callousness of showbusiness.
The Nick Cannon Show
This was the first season of The Nick Cannon Show. As it is well known in television, viewership is king. The continuance of a show is heavily dependent on how many people tune in. In comparison to other talk shows, Nick’s viewership paled. As a source relays,
“He reportedly garnered an average of 568,000 daily viewers, while hit shows Dr. Phil and Live with Kelly and Ryan can secure up to 2.5 million per day.
His numbers weren’t enough to sustain the show.
Nick Opens Up
Cannon seems to be taking the news well. In his interview, he reminded listeners how he still has many projects wherein he has developed a presence. One thing the serial performer is clear on is his level of gratitude. He expressed some of his deeper feelings in a statement:
“This has been a blessing and a dream come true. Thank you for letting me come into your homes.”
While Cannon’s show is officially over and done, there are more episodes left of the season, which Cannon conveyed,
“We still have more shows. This isn’t the last show. We have a month of shows that are going to be on.”
For supporters, this is a bit of good news.
Although not the best sign-off, Nick never stays down for long. He is one of the hardest-working performers in the industry. So, for sure, there is more ahead for Cannon. But, when the time comes, fans can still enjoy him on “Wild’n Out” and the “Masked Singer.”
