NBA Commissioner Announced 8-Year Partnership w/ Nike!
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has announced Nike will be the official uniform sponsor of the NBA. The deal will begin in the 2017-2018 season as an eight year partnership. The contract is worth more than $1 billion and will give Nike, who already controls more than 90 percent of the U.S. basketball shoe market, the rights to supplying the jerseys, shorts and warmup gear used by the NBA teams.
“This partnership with Nike represents a new paradigm in the structure of our global merchandising business,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “As our exclusive oncourt apparel provider, Nike will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and oncourt products.”
Also for the first time ever, the league will allow their sponsor Nike to have their logo on NBA game jerseys. The NBA is currently in contract with Adidas but Nike will take over once the contract ends in 2016.
