Normani and Doja Cat Collab Possibly In The Works

There could be a Normani and Doja Cat collab in our future. At Billboard’s Women in Music event Wednesday, Normani took to the red carpet and talked about presenting an award to Doja Cat. “She’s dominated the industry and taken over every inch of it in a matter of two years,” she said. “I just really, really appreciate her work ethic.”

As she spoke to Chelsea Briggs, Normani spotted Doja off-camera. In the middle of talking about her list of dream collaborations, Doja comes over to join the pair. She expressed her happiness at having Normani present her with the award. Briggs said, “I think you guys should do a collab together.”  Normani said they talked about it, while Doja agreed, saying, “We should.”

These Women Make Hits and History

After the split of girl group Fifth Harmony, Normani is making moves. In 2018, “Love Lies“, her collaboration with Khalid, debuted at no. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the highest debut for a solo girl group member in history. The following year, she became the fastest solo artist to hit one billion Spotify streams with no album out. The singer also scored herself her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart with “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B.

Doja Cat is making a name for herself as well. Her albums “Hot Pink” and “Planet Her” earned her eleven Grammy nominations. In 2020, her disco hit “Say So” became her first RIAA-certified platinum hit. The following year, she became the female rapper with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. She also broke a Guinness World Record alongside Nicki Minaj by being the first female rap duo to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. As of fall 2021, “Planet Her” is currently eligible to be certified platinum in the U.S.

Normani presented the Powerhouse award to the “Say So” singer and rapper, who joked about breaking her award to access the designer jewelry inside. No word yet as to what a Normani and Doja Cat collab track would sound like, but if it happens, it will be a triumph for fans of both artists.
