Baltimore Police Officers Indicted for the Death of Freddie Gray
All six officers who were arrested and charged in the death of Freddie Gray were indicted by a grand jury. The indictments differ slightly from the initial charges that Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced on May 1. The false imprisonment and assault charges were dropped for some of the officers and new charges, including reckless endangerment, were added against all six officers.
The more serious charges for each officer range from second-degree “depraved heart” murder to assault, which still stood from the original series of charges. Mosby didn’t give an explanation as to why the changes happened other than stating
“As is often the case, during an ongoing investigation, charges can and should be revised based upon the evidence”.
U.S Attorney General Loretta Lynch has opened her own investigation into the Baltimore Police Department to determine if the department had been engaging in a series of civil rights violations.
