Southern rappers have a firm grip on the current rap scene, and Omeretta might just be next up. Particularly Atlanta is making a ton of new stars year after year. One of the current rookies on the ATL roster is also Omeretta The Great. While she’s only just getting started, she’s also already gaining massive traction with her new song “Sorry NOT Sorry.” Now, fellow Atlanta artist Latto is adding her own verse after fans feared a feud between the two.
An ATL affair
Last month (Feb. 18), Omeretta dropped ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ to YouTube and other streaming services. Throughout the song, the 21-year-old refers to specific parts of the region as “not Atlanta.”
“College Park is not Atlanta/Lithonia is not Atlanta/Clayco is not Atlanta/Decatur is not Atlanta/Gwinnett is not Atlanta/Roswell is not Atlanta/Forest park is not Atlanta/Lilburn is not Atlanta/The north is not Atlanta/The south is not Atlanta/You niggas is not Atlanta/You bitches is not Atlanta/Big Retta, I’m too Atlanta.”
The track then immediately went viral for its controversial subject matter. City line wars are nothing new, but the heads this time turned because several iconic artists represent the electorate of the districts mentioned in the song. Namely, Monica, Outkast, Migos, and 2 Chainz apparently are not from Atlanta. At least, that’s what Omeretta herself says.
While many praised Retta for her boldness and marketing ability, some weren’t as impressed.

Although reactions were mixed, one thing remained consistent. The hit that young rapper now had on her hands. “Sorry NOT Sorry” currently has over 1.2 million views on YouTube. It has obviously garnered a massive reaction from Omeretta’s hometown and earned her a collab from an unexpected ally.
Latto’s Helping Hand
Latto first made an impression on season one of The Rap Game in 2016. Since then, she changed her name and style, eventually marking the industry. Since landing a spot on the XXL Freshman Class in 2020, the 23-year-old entered the Billboard Hot 100 with “Bitch From Tha Souf.” The #95 spot officially launched Latto into the spotlight, and she’s only gained popularity since then. The Cobb County rapper is clearly here to stay with co-signs from Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane.
Fans didn’t let it go unnoticed when she responded to “Sorry NOT Sorry” on social media (Feb. 26). The clip from her Instagram story features a clout-having TikTok sound playing over the caption, which says, “ClayCo is not Alanna.” The dots were then quickly connected to Omeretta.
This also led fans to believe a rivalry may be on the horizon. It’s absolutely no secret to anyone that conflict in the female rap world is nothing new. Kim vs. Foxy, Nicki vs. Cardi, and City Girls vs. Asian Doll are only a few examples. With most expecting the worst, it’s even more impressive how the two southern girls made the best.
Omeretta Uses Maturity To Her Advantage
Latto was quick to clear up in her reaction video on TikTok. When a fan asked if “Sorry NOT Sorry” was a big deal, the “Energy” rapper seemed unphased.
“It’s not a big deal lol clay co is the south we not the city she said the truth tbh” she typed.
That amicable ending was followed by a special announcement from Omeretta. Earlier this week, she posted the cover art to the “Sorry NOT Sorry” remix (Mar. 3). The cover revealed the addition of Latto to the viral hit. Later that evening, the song dropped on Youtube to a highly positive reception.
Fans praised the two rappers for joining forces instead of playing a petty beef. Despite the common belief that controversy sells, Omaretta refreshingly went another direction. In addition to the excellent marketing, Latto’s rap skills went acknowledged by social media.
