#CherryJuice: Mayweather & Pacquiao Ratings Come Out

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Pay-Per-View Broadcast Generated 4.4 Million Buys

Approximately $40 million viewers from 175 countries tuned in to watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao, May 2nd fight. The anticipated prizefight is said to be the richest fight in sports history, grossing 600 million dollars.

“We did not anticipate this number of buys,” said Mark Taffet, who heads PPV operations for HBO. “it reinforces a notion that when you give the fans the fights they demand, they always respond.

The fight tripled the record of $150 million in pay-per-view revenue generated by the Mayweather vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight. Although, the welterweight title fight didn’t live to the hype, Mayweather will be walking away with approximately $240 million dollars and Pacquiao with $160 million that he will have to split with his promoter Bob Arum.

“There’s a difference between a great fighter and TBE (The Best Ever), and I proved that I’m the best,” said Mayweather. “I worked my whole life to get to this point, and no one is taking this away from me.”
