The 2004 platinum-selling hit single “Holla Back Girl” was produced by The Neptunes. This duet producing group included Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo. In a recent video, Naomi Campbell has a conversation with Pharell Williams on her talk show titled “No filter with Naomi Campbell.”
During the conversation, Pharell and Naomi reminisce about the first time they met each other and how much respect they have for each other. Pharell then goes on to explain how Naomi inspired the hit single “Holla Back Girl” sung by pop artist Gwen Stefani.
“The other thing I wanna say, too, before I forget is Gwen, and I have a song called ‘Hollaback,’ and that chorus came from a conversation when you were like, telling somebody, you ain’t no Hollaback girl,'” Pharell says with a smile. “You were like, ‘I’m sorry, I have a name. I’m not no hollaback girl.’ And I thought that was so amazing, and that ended up being the chorus to the song.” Below is the 35-minute conversation.
Naomi responded saying “I don’t remember who I was talking to, but I guess they deserved it”.
Pharell has produced many songs with legendary artists such as Snoop Dogg, Beyonce, Britney Spears, etc. He will go down in history as one of the greatest producers of all time. Let’s hope he shares some more inspirational tales.
