Pharrell Williams is an amazingly talented artist with an enviable and diverse resume to boot. On Tuesday the artist was acknowledged for another slew of accomplishments by receiving the inaugural Webby Anthem Award “for his work towards racial equity in education and entrepreneurship.”
The award highlights his visionary endeavors in “empowering a new generation of students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Motivation (S.T.E.A.M.M). Williams joins Kristen Bell, Trevor Noah, Dua Lipa, James Corden and person of the year, Dr. Anthony Fauci, among others.
The Webby Awards is an annual ceremony that recognizes the best content and creators that the internet has to offer. This year celebrates the 25th anniversary ceremony and a list of nominees and winners well deserved of their respective categories. The Anthem Award — and its worthy recipient — will continue to be recognized in subsequent announcements for years to come.
The annual Anthem Awards, however, is a separate yet prominent event that celebrates ambitious, mission-driven work of individuals and organizations. Its launch, in June 2021 will showcase awards featuring Corporate Responsibility, Inclusion & Diversity and Health & Wellness.
The award ceremony is, by all accounts, quite successful through its 25th year. And as for Williams and the other winners, I’d be remiss to say that their respective efforts have gone unnoticed.
