Pop Smoke is still making moves, even a year after his untimely death. The Brooklyn native continues to live on through his posthumous music and, now, in film. ‘Boogie’ is about a Chinese-American basketball player, Alfred “Boogie” Chin, who journeys with a rival basketball player ‘Monk’ played by Pop Smoke.

The movie features how Boogie struggles to focus on school, his relationship, and beating his rivals to reach his dream of becoming a professional basketball player come true.

Director Eddie Huang spoke about how it was working with Pop Smoke before he passed. He told New York Times,

“He gave me a thousand percent. They were tough 16-hour days, overnights, and he shot five overnights in a row,” Huang said. “Kids were coming on the bridge to watch us shoot the scenes. We would play Pop’s record. All our actors, the extras, the kids on the bridge watching us shoot scenes, everyone was doing the Woo dance. It was pretty special.”

Boogie is in select theaters today. However, it’s not the only upcoming project that will have Pop Smoke in it. In April 2020, his manager Steven Victor confirmed that a documentary based on its life and music is coming. Watch the trailer for Boogie below.
