Keys Really Do Open Doors

Acclaimed rapper, Pusha T, reveals that he wants to write a children’s book, of all things!  After countless years of successful drug dealing, 17 years of major rap fame, and being the hip-hop anchor of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, this is an unexpected turn.

A fan of Clipse, Push’s old rap duo with his brother, Malice, tweeted that he plays Clipse music for his two year-old child.  Push retweeted with a comment saying that he’s “been trying to write a children’s book for years…they won’t publish [me]…(sad face emoji)”.

Given the Virginia rapper’s history of what he exclusively writes about, it isn’t too shocking that publishers are resistant.  However, with the intellectual and professional abilities that Pusha T demonstrates, we believe he deserves a fair chance.

Both Pusha T and his brother have demonstrated the ability to grow as people.  Malice changed his name to No Malice upon revisiting the bible, and both haven’t sold drugs in way longer than their music would indicate.  The ‘Nosetalgia’ MC is now 44 years-old and raising a young child, Nigel Brixx Thornton (yep, he did that). With this huge life change, it’s understandable that he wants to make something that his son can access.  Push’s rap skill is mainly in his word choice and delivery, both of which could make a solid children’s book.  Let’s hope this book ends up happening, since Detroit rapper Danny Brown’s announcement of his own children’s book in 2015 has yet to be mobilized since.

Pusha T stays “Grindin'”

The fun news of this book and his recent trending due to the appearance of Drake’s son putting him back on the radar, where he belongs.  After making the untouchable heat that is his 2018 ‘Daytona’ album, he’s been on a flawless feature run ever since.  Even more exciting, his upcoming album consists of six songs produced by super duo The Neptunes,  and six songs produced by Kanye. With Pharell and comp supplementing his early career and Kanye supplementing his current one, this has significant “Album of the Year” potential.  There indeed are few rappers that can age as seamlessly as Virginia’s most notorious MC.

Until then, hopefully some publishing companies will give Pusha T a chance, even we want to read this book!
