Queen Latifah Officially Comes Out During Pride Month
On June 27th, Queen Latifah was honored with a special award at the BET Awards. During her speech, Queen Latifah officially came out during Pride Month. Queen Latifah acknowledges long-time love, Eboni Nichols, and their son during her speech at the awards ceremony. With a tribute performance from Monie Love, Lil Kim, Rapsody, and MC Lyte, the veteran MC/actor addressed the audience alongside her father.
Throughout the years, the New Jersey-born musician-turned-Golden Globe winner has refused to confirm or deny suspicions of her homosexuality. That is, until her speech, when she thanked her long-time love and their son.
The singer stated during her speech, “I’m gonna get off this stage, but I thank you so much for all of you, the fans for supporting every crazy-ass thing I’ve done through the years.” Towards the the end of her speech, she said, “And thank you for making Equalizer No. 1. Eboni, my love. Rebel, my love. Peace. Happy Pride!”
What Was Latifah Honored For?
Queen Latifah was honored for her over three decades of dedication to hip-hop culture and acting. She explained to the audience how her late mother helped mold her into the powerful Black woman she is today.
“Peace – Pride!”, said Latifah (real name Dana Owens) in her acceptance speech.
