Lizzette Martinez, one of R. Kelly’s victims, thinks that he should stay in prison. She does not think his abusive actions will ever end. She would rather have him in prison than on the streets.

Last September, R. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering, bribery, sexual exploitation of a child, and sex trafficking. They originally were going to have his sentencing in May, but that was delayed to June. Kelly had used his money and fame to get away with his crimes for 30 years. However, now that fame is going to be used for a good purpose.

What R. Kelly’s survivors think should happen

Martinez tells TMZ that she thinks that the prosecution’s recommendation of 25 years prison time is too low. She and many of his other victims are still trying to deal with the emotional turmoil that he left them with. She would prefer it if they lock him up and throw away the key.

The prosecutors agree with Martinez. 25 years of prison is not enough time. The more years that are added to the sentence, the more deterrence there is to deter others from similar crimes. Even more so with Kelly’s fame and that his sentencing is going to be widely publicized.

Not all of his victims agree with Martinez, however. Kitti Jones has no issue with the recommended time. However, she does admit that no time in prison is going to remove her, and the other victims’, traumas.

There is renewed interest in the case after the docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” which aired in 2019 and 2020. Both Martinez and Jones, as well as many other victims, share their experiences in it. The two women also say that they are going to attend his sentencing later this month.

This is only for his New York case. R. Kelly still has an Illinois federal case and a Minnesota state trial to attend as well.
