Although R. Kelly is deeply in trouble with the law, the R&B singer will still keep his Grammy awards. The “Keys To Ignition” musician was found guilty on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in September.

The news about R.Kelly keeping his accolades comes from Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.

“I think it’s something that we’re going to need to take a good hard look at, have a lot of conversations about, work through and make a decision,” Mason Jr. said in a statement. “But right now, I think it’s something that is going to take a little bit more consideration before we can really dictate or decide. My initial feeling is we’re probably not a business that we want to be in of taking people’s awards back after they’ve been given. But we’ll take a good look at it and see.”

In other R.Kelly news, he is under suicide watch this month. This event occurred after the court deemed Kells guilty of committing federal sex crimes.

Jennifer Bonjean will work alongside R. Kelly as his attorney. She previously won an appeal for Bill Cosby’s sex abuse case. Additionally, she’s “looking forward to getting familiar with the record” in Kelly’s case.

“I am becoming increasingly concerned with how the government is abusing the RICO statute to plead around the statute of limitations and essentially put people’s entire lives on trial,” Bonjean said. “It’s becoming a formula for the government. You have a right to defend yourself against specific allegations.
