Terror Squad alum, Remy Ma, has a creative name suggestion for A$AP Rocky and Rihanna’s unborn baby, and some uplifting words for the mother-to-be.
Remy on women empowerment
The New York rapper spoke with TMZ this week (Feb. 7) outside Won World Studios about motherhood in the music industry. When asked if she thinks women in entertainment can have it all, she responded enthusiastically. “Absolutely!” She responded. “So many have done it[…] Rihanna, she’s a mom to be, she’s amazing, you have the Cardi B’s of the world, you have myself,”
“Sometimes it’s hard cause we’re made to believe we can’t do it. But women can do anything[…] we run the world like Bey says.”
Mothers that didn’t give up the crown
Beyonce became a mother in January 2012 during the height of her extremely successful career. She gave birth again in June 2017 to a set of twins right off the heels of her sixth studio album Lemonade. Only a short 13 months after giving birth, she headlined Coachella with a stunning 105-minute long set, complete with intense vocals and choreography. During this entire process, she filmed practice sessions and personal moments to prepare for the release of her Netflix special Homecoming. When it was all said and done, Bey took home a whopping $60 million for the project with Netflix. These days, she’s debuting her brand new Valentine’s Day-themed Ivy Park collection while raising her trio of young kids. Clearly, Bey is a prime example of women in the industry being able to do it all.
Another shining example of a working mom in the music world is fellow New York rapper, Nicki Minaj. She brought a baby boy into the world in October 2020 and has since continued to dominate the female rap scene. In May 2021 she rereleased her iconic mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty to an overwhelmingly positive reception, becoming the highest charting re-release of a rap mixtape in Billboard history. Now, she’s preparing for a brand new era with her single “Do We Have a Problem” shooting up to No.1 on the US iTunes song sales chart.
Undoubtedly, Rihanna is set to join Bey and Nicki as a part-time musical powerhouse and full-time mother.
Remy gets personal
During the brief interview, Remy had a cheeky idea for Rih’s yet-to-be-revealed baby name. “Her name is Rihanna, starts with an R, and his name is Rocky starts with an R, so they should probably name their kid with an R,” she explained. Neither Rihanna nor Rocky has given any info regarding a name or gender quite yet, but the “Conceited” rapper wasn’t shy about her proposal. “Remy is a unisex name” she laughed.
In addition to the encouraging words, Remy made sure to expound on her own personal experiences with motherhood. “You make it work. When you love something, I love my career, and you’re passionate about it, you just make it happen.”
