The untimely death of up-and-coming 19-year-old rapper Big Wan is a sad reminder that tragedy is boundless.
Details of the Shooting
Friday, November 26th, Big Wan’s life was cut short when a series of bullets tore through his home. The young hip-hop artist, born Dawan Turner, was in his room at the time of the incident. According to a source, authorities made the pronouncement of his death at the scene.
Making a Name for Himself
Wan hadn’t yet made a mark in the industry in a larger sense. But, in the city of Milwaukee, he was leaving stardust everywhere. His press coverage bore evidence that he was on his way straight to the top.
According to Pitchfork’s March coverage of the Milwaukee hip hop scene, “He [Big Wan] was behind some of the most fun rap in a city that has no shortage of it right now.”
Big Wan, an Early Rising Star
The enterprising teen began demonstrating his passion for hip hop in his early years. According to Yahoo News, his delve into music started at the age of 11. His zeal was not without notice.
Bagzz, who Yahoo notes as Big Wan’s future manager, had high praise for the aspirant star.
According to Yahoo,
“To Bagzz (real name Will Norton), Turner’s natural charisma, ambition and technical skills were reminiscent of rap legend The Notorious B.I.G.”
Talk about creating a name for yourself; now that is a talent that is nothing to scoff at.
The Music Says It All
Wan’s breakout track bore the title “Fast Lane Lifestyle.” The track received over 400,000 views. Although ‘Fast Lane Lifestyle‘ is considered his breakout single, it was not his first release. Wan’s releases include at least three other singles with a massive amount of Youtube views.
He is said to have had lyrics for days and an unmatchable wordplay. As noted,
“His low-key swagger and distinct delivery — engagingly droll, with a slurred word sometimes playfully disrupting his sharp flow — drew listeners into his witty wordplay.”
Given such sentiments, his blaze is apparent.
Another Artist Gone Too Soon
Yet another artist is gone too soon. This tragedy sends another grim reminder of the long-lasting impact of senseless gun violence.
According to sources, arrests are yet to be made in conjunction with this crime. As Yahoo reports, the investigation into this horrific death is still underway.
So, today our condolences go out to Big Wan’s friends, family, and the city of Milwaukee. It is indeed another sad day for hip-hop culture.
