Royce da 5’9″ and Lupe Fiasco Release Diss Tracks Amidst “Beef”

Royce da 5’9″ and Lupe Fiasco is frequently mentioned in the same breath by Hip-Hop heads.  They’re known to true fans as two of the greatest lyricists in the history of Hip-Hop. With that, they both brought it hard when dropping diss tracks on each other.

Beginning on Instagram live, Young Guru was with Royce and once Lupe joined the stream, Guru prompted the battle.  Lupe said wasn’t entirely interested but if Royce want’s the smoke then he’s ready to bring the fire.  Royce played around with that, demanding Lupe to “hop in the ring.”  This was later followed by the first diss track of the “feud,” ‘Silence of the Lambda.’

A diss track spanning around seven minutes, Royce brings the bars on Lupe.  As harsh as he goes, fans still speculate that they’re both somewhat having fun with it. It took Lupe no time to fire back with his diss, ‘Steve Jobs SLR 3 1/2.’  At six minutes, it’s equally skilled as it is scathing.  The bars feel too real to even tell how serious they are.

Beef or…?

Hopefully, everything’s cool between the Midwestern MC’s, as they run a podcast series called The Lupe and Royce Show.  However, with time on their hands, endless talent, and a solid friendship between them, this can go in any direction  While we certainly don’t want the tracks to get too real, it’s not unlikely that there’s more to come. If Royce responds to Lupe’s response, we’ll have a better gauge on just how serious or fun this conflict is.

At the end of the day, these diss tracks are a weird dream come true for fans. We get to see two of the greatest lyricists, with a personal history, go back and forth at each other.  With their age and personalities, who knows if they’re just trying to put on a show or if we’re witnessing a falling out.  Either way, we’ve got our notifications on from both Lupe and Royce.
