Run The Jewels is back with a new music video. The video for RTJ’s song “Never Look Back” is an homage to George Romero’s classic film, Night of The Living Dead

Directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition), the video for “Never Look Back” has scenes from Night of The Living Dead blended with original scenes. Hillcoat also shot it in black & white like the cult horror movie. In the video, Killer Mike and El-P maneuver a zombie uprising.

In the middle of the music video, there’s a group of survivors watching Run The Jewels perform on television. Crouched near the screen is the hero of Night of the Living Dead, Ben, who is extremely important to the storyline. He was one of the few leading black protagonists in American horror films at the time. His leading role as the hero sparked a lot of controversy in 1968. This was especially the case because Ben spent a part of the movie trapped in a farmhouse with a white woman. However, it set the tone for so many movies to come in Hollywood that are similar to Night of the Living Dead

The “Never Look Back” video stars cameos from another George Romero film as well as a modern hit tv show. Those cameos go to Greg Nicotero from Day of the Dead and Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. These two are seen in an original clip, looking distressed with weapons in hand protecting their turf. Could it be that they think Killer Mike and El-P were zombies too? Or maybe, it is because Mike is a black man walking through the woods with his white friend? I guess we will leave that up for interpretation.
