RZA and Lebron James have teamed up with Calm for an advertisement and audio story.
Calm is a sleep and meditation app designed to help people stay cool and collected with mood check-ins, guided meditations, and calming nature sounds and music.
The ad dropped today to line up with the start of the NBA season and is on broadcast TV, digital and social media, and out-of-home advertisements.
The audio story is a 34-minute “Sleep Story” called King of the Sleeping City, narrated by Lebron James and scored by RZA. The story is about a kid navigating a bustling metropolis. The character, named Amare, finds solace on a seventh-story fire escape.
“Take it as far as you can take it down.” RZA had said after 10 seconds of drawing breath deep into his belly during his Rolling Stone interview.
RZA is also an advocate of veganism and other health-focused life choices:
“I say meditation is better than medication.”
RZA had difficulties with making this audio adventure. “We had some technical glitches, which always come at the final hour,” he said. “… I found myself in the studio ’til four and five in the morning for two nights in a row. I haven’t done that in 10 years.”
RZA completed mixing for the Calm collab while in Manhattan for an unannounced movie. After he was done with the mixing, he had film-related duties as early as 8 am the next day.
