Exclusive: Sasha Go Hard Interview w/ FMHipHop

We recently got a chance to sit down and chat with Chi-town’s finest Sasha Go Hard. The former first lady of Chief Keef’s Glory Boyz Entertainment is really setting the tone this year after she released her new mix tape Nutty World 2 this April. In this interview we discuss politics, falling in love and how Spike Lee changed her life. Sasha Go hard not only shared her experience about the music industry, but gave a pretty dope advice to young female emcee looking into making a positive impact in the game.

FMHipHop: Hey Sasha, thanks for taking the time out of your day to chop it up with us?

Sasha: I really appreciate it cuz there’s a lot of young girls hitting me up about rapping and stuff and they’re serious and want to do something positive. I figure this would be a good chance for them to hear me out so I appreciate FMHipHop for reaching out.

FMHipHop: So tell us what’s it like transitioning from being an up and coming female rapper to well-respect international artist?

Sasha: It’s been pretty great! I started with drill and it was cool to a point, but you know being I’m from Chicago and everything that’s been going in Chicago it’s not a good luck and doesn’t help to continue to rap about drill, the violence and stuff.

So by me deciding to do different things…I was able to fly overseas and it’s a blessing! It makes me feel real good and it motivated me to keep exploring and be better. A lot of people don’t get the opportunity to go overseas and being on that plane for hours I was like damn this is crazy.

But Drill really got a lot of peoples’ eyes on me. Drill was a big thing for Chicago and I’m not a shame of where I came from, but I’m doing way better without the drill.

FMHipHop: So how would you define your sound now?

Sasha: It’s an upgrade. It’s not the same at all. I use to tell people that I’m a rapper, now I tell them I’m an artist, because I make so many different types of music with different types of feelings.

FMHipHop: Did you expect to receive so much love from people not from the U.S.

Sasha: Yea kinda was because you get these who say “hey we’re from here and we rock with you”, but to actually go to London, Paris, and Germany and see all those people compared to the other shows I do in the states, my overseas fans were turnt all the way up!

FMHipHop: What advice would you give a female artist dealing with receiving sexual advances from shady industry characters?

Sasha: I would tell her to put herself first! Don’t allow people to discourage her. I always speak on this because for new female rappers this always happens to them. Where big guys in the music industry try to use them for something as far as sex if she wants to work with him.

I’ve been through it and I know some other female artist that’s gone through it. I just recommend don’t think that is necessary. I never did nothing with anybody in order for them to work with me.

I’m very successful coming in as a young girl, starting at the bottom, coming from Chicago and I didn’t have to do nothing with a man. Don’t think that is needed in order for you to succeed in this business. Just keep your head up!

FMHipHop: Tell us about your latest mix tape Nutty World 2?

Sasha: This is one of my favorite mix tape, I’ve got some songs in here that tough me and make me go harder, it’s called “vision”. I’ve got my daughter at the beginning, but the song is all about the visions I’ve got which is do what I need to do to get me and my peoples are good. But I really do love all the song on my mix tape, but that song motivates me the most.

FMHipHop: What’s good with this “N****s Ain’t Sh@!” record?

Sasha: [laughing] it’s crazy but now in days they’re not! I’m not saying all guys aren’t shit. It’s just that I’ve been through some stuff and some of my friends have been through some stuff the songs was really to make a statement about guys who are not.

It wasn’t directed to anyone in particular, it’s just hard to trust guys especially for my generation. I know a lot of guys that took that and ran with it, but it’s true for some guys.

FMHipHop: So is it safe to say that Miss Go Hard has no plans on falling in love?

Sasha: [Laughing] I just don’t have time. I gotta song called “Don’t fall in love”, basically don’t come here looking for love. Being that a lot of people don’t keep it 100 I’m just keeping it 100. A lot of time it’s not about me or my situation, I make songs about what other people are experiencing or can relate to.

I just wanted to add that cuz a lot of people probably are listening to my songs like “this girl must really got her heart-broke” [laughing] but I ain’t going to lie I’ve been through some stuff with people playing with me, guys taking advantage of me. But I also know some girls going through the same stuff so I try to make songs people can relate to.

FMHipHop: Any special project you got coming up in 2015?

Sasha: Yea! A lot of people don’t know that I’m goin to be featured in one of Spike Lee’s movie. Big shout out to Spike Lee…he’s a great man and such an inspiration.

FMHipHop: Wow, How did you link up with Spike Lee?

Sasha: One day I got an email from his assistant about spike lee wanted to meet me. I didn’t think it was real at first so I replied to the email, set a date to link up. When that day came I was like “OMG its Spike Lee!” It was definitely a blessing!
