21 Savage (@21savage) and producer Metro Boomin (@metroboomin) announced that Savage Mode 2, the sequel to their 2016 EP, will come out this Friday, October 2nd via Epic Records. The two made the announcement via a YouTube video narrated by Morgan Freeman (@morganfreeman). Check out the clip below:
Following Savage Mode, the rapper continued to make successful works. His debut record IssaAlbum, named for an interview segment gone viral, featured his hit “Bank Account” and charted as number 2 on the US Billboard 100. His horror film style and villian-like songs run their course through the album.
I Am > I Was features vocals by J. Cole, Childish Gambino, Schoolboy Q, Post Malone, Offset, Lil Baby, Gunna, and Travis Scott, among others. Following his second debut album, he created the joint album Without Warning with Metro Boomin and Offset (@offsetyrn). You may remember some of the popular songs such as “Ghostface Killers” and the catchy “Ric Flair Drip”.
Concurrently, Metro Boomin and Big Sean (@bigsean) went on to make Double or Nothing, featuring hit songs “Go Legend” and “Pull Up N Wreck”. He then went on to make his debut album in November 2018 titled Not All Heroes Wear Capes.
The first Savage Mode was pure gold. It’s no secret that 21 Savage (real name: Shayaa Joseph) has had a rough life, from trouble in school, getting shot, and having multiple friends murdered. His violent past comes out in his lyrics and his dry and grainy voice makes it an overall eerie and brooding album. Despite the dark and deviating tracks, he does have a few sentimental tracks, starting with “Feel It”. He continues the soft tone in “Ocean Drive”, rapping about the places he’s been taken through his rap career that he never thought he’d see. The album also features the Double Platinum “X” featuring Future (@future).
It’s undeniable that everyone is ready to hear what the rappers have to say in their sequel, Savage Mode 2.
