New Details About The Shooting Of Tamir Rice Revealed
The investigation into the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice has revealed new details about how officers behaved at the scene, the efforts to save Tamir’s life and remorse of the boy who gave Tamir his airlift pellet gun. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office released a 224-page report that address the account of the shooting. The police officer who shot Rice, Officer Timothy Loehmann, told the investigators that the boy reached for the gun before he opened fire.
“He gave me no choice. He reached for the gun and there was nothing I could do,” Lehmann told a fellow police officer moments after he shot Rice.
Also the report includes accounts from witnesses that stated they did not hear the officers issue a warning to Rice. This differs from the statements made by police that the officers did order Rice to “show your hands” three times before the shots were fired.
The evidence has yet to be presented by prosecutors to a grand jury for consideration of an indictment against Officer Loehmann or his partner.
