#FreshJuice: SoundCloud Announces 24HR Streaming Limit!

Dear SoundCloud, Is Anything Ever Really Free?

Mark your calendars. On July 1st, there will be a 24 hour streaming limit on SoundCloud. According to Business Insider, in an effort to crack down on the ones who abuse its services, SoundCloud made the announcement that it would be limiting access to the music and podcasts hosted on the site to outside developers.

What this basically means is that for developers, if you make an app which does use SoundCloud for audio purposes, and you have 5,000 users, they each get three plays before SoundCloud suspends your access to its public API — the “hook” that programmers use to integrate their apps with an outside service.

Developers are not too thrilled with this decision and many have gone to SoundCloud’s official blog post to experience their concerns. One post reads, “Hanging by a thread! I didn’t think you could actually make it any worse but you have.”

This change came with a purpose, which is to stop parties from using API access to build apps that would falsify and boost up the number of plays on SoundClould tracks, which then would improve their popularity. So after July 1st, I hope you choose your time wisely on SoundCloud.
