SZA Announces New Music to be Released at Midnight

After a three year musical hiatus, SZA shocks fans by announcing on Instagram that she will be releasing new music at midnight.

Within those three years, SZA was featured on three major songs, such as Maroon 5’s What Lover’s Do and Lorde’s Homemade Dynamite Remix also featuring the likes of Khalid and Post Malone in 2017, and DJ Khaled’s Just Us in 2019.

Solana Rowe, known by her stage name SZA, is a singer songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri.

She began making and releasing music back in 2012 with her EP titled See.SZA.Run. In 2013, she released her second EP, S, and announced that she was signed to TDE which features artists such as Kendrick Lamar SiR, Jay Rock and more. Through TDE, she released her third EP titled Z in 2014.

Ctrl was released on June 9th, 2017 after much delay — partly due to Solana’s hesitation. This album took the world by storm and is still in heavy rotation for many even now. In an article for The Guardian, she mentions how her album was to originally be dropped in 2015 but her management was giving her much difficulty. She even tweeted in October of 2016:

“I actually quit, @iamstillpunch [management] can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.”

Fans again came to SZA’s rescue in 2020 after the explosion of the hashtag #FreeSZA. Fans have had enough of waiting on new music from the artist and demanded answers. SZA again took to her Twitter and tweeted “At this point y’all gotta ask Punch. I’ve done all I can do.” To all questions surrounding when new music would ever be released, all she could reply was “soon.” She even mentions how her relationship with her management has been difficult.
