#FMSpotlight: Rook’s Work Is Celebrated In Both The Film & Music Industry

Rook is an artist of versatility. Between his melodic and rap deliveries, he speaks on relatable topics in a refreshing manner. Likewise, his beat selection takes inspiration from various genres. Given these points, we can say he’s the next artist that’ll top the charts.

Outside of music, he’s a video director with motion picture size dreams. Rook is proclaimed the leading video director within the hip-hop community. Artists call on him to revive visuals. Moreso, to bring them to life. His talent knows no bounds!

After graduating from film school in Florida, Rook signed to an independent label. Due to the rise of college internet rap, his career propelled even further. Yet, this was only the beginning. In turn, Rook scored a growing fanbase in South Florida.

Fast forward, and he went back home to Connecticut in pursuit of starting his own video production company. After grinding and spending years behind the lens working with Rick RossSmoke DZAA BoogieDave East, and more, Rook has now decided to be the camera’s focal point.

In 2017, he released his EP Movn Pictures. A year later, he released his EP Shoot Tú Kill. Amidst building buzz in CT, he joined fellow hometown emcees Chris Webby and Anoyd in the 75-date Raw Thoughts Tour, which took him across the country. Now, he’s prepping for 2022. He’s got music in the works and is a director for Blanksquare Productions in Los Angeles.

His single last year, “sundown,” seemingly corresponds with the summer vibes that’ll live on for a lifetime. The afro-beat hip-hop instrumental is kissed by an acoustic guitar. Using a singsong flow, the musician speaks about a budding relationship that he’s fallen deep into.

At the beginning of the song, he vocalizes

You’re tryna find my tempo/I don’t wanna keep it simple with you/Tell you my goals; I could kick it with you.”

As the song continues, he expresses his hustle and how it’s earned him some fortune and a loyal fanbase. But not everyone is in agreeance with his busy schedule.

Life been a movie, so I keep on shooting/Lately I been throwing this paper like I’m polluting.”

Then, he details how his wife’s family doesn’t see him the same. But, regardless, they are twin flames.

But we know the truth, and we don’t let no one confuse it. I want you close to me.”

In the second verse, he details his girls’ frustration with his process of elevating his career. Ultimately, she wants him to add her to his plans.

And she told me to make time/So fed up she don’t even wanna dine.”

After, he questions if she’d be with him through any and everything.

If I only had a dollar, would you still say that’s fine?

Conclusively, he wants to wife her up. There’s an anonymous songstress who sings from the female’s POV at the end.

Make sure to check out Rook to stay posted on what he drops next.
