Kevin Abstract Prepping to Drop ‘SIERRA NIGHTS’ With Ryan Beatty

Even with a new album from BROCKHAMPTON on the way, the hip-hop boy band’s frontman is not shying away from dropping more solo work. Last month, Kevin Abstract released a new single titled “SLUGGER” with features from $NOT and slowthai. The track appears to be the first single from an upcoming solo project by the Texas rapper. It will follow his 2019 album “ARIZONA BABY”.

Now, Abstract has announced that he has yet another single on the way. His next track, “SIERRA NIGHTS,” will release on August 18. It has a feature from California singer Ryan Beatty. A pre-save for the track has already been put up on his Twitter alongside the track’s cover art.

Yesterday, Abstract also decided to go ahead and drop a snippet of the song and its supposed music video.

It’s the latest in an interesting saga for Abstract and BROCKHAMPTON

In the midst of promoting his own solo work, Kevin Abstract has also been talking up what will be the last BROCKHAMPTON album ever according to a big GQ feature. It is expected to release this year. The group also released a full-length project with features from Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, JPEGMAFIA, and more back in April.

The group’s frontman has also made headlines for joking about DaBaby and his recent homophobic comments that prompted an uproar from the LGBTQ+ community and allies. As an openly gay musician, he took to Twitter to note the irony behind his crew playing on the same stage as the controversial rapper during Lollapalooza. The festival ultimately removed DaBaby from the lineup.

With all the attention surrounding Kevin Abstract’s name, it makes sense for him to capitalize and keep his rollout going.

Say Goodbye to BROCKHAMPTON

After a decade together, the 13-member music collective will release their seventh (and final) project

Back in March the founding member of Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract, posted a tweet to let fans know the band would put out two more albums in 2021 before parting ways for good. The tweet came after a year-long hiatus in 2020.

“2 brockhampton albums in 2021 – these will be our last,” he tweeted.

The first of the two albums came out in April. Called Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine, the project featured artists from A$AP Rocky to Charlie Wilson. The album even peaked at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard 100 charts.

The first of the two Brockhampton albums came out in April and they called it 'Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine'

Last Monday, July 19, Abstract announced Brockhampton will release the second part of their final albums “before the end of the year.”

Fans were immediately skeptical of Abstract’s announcement of the groups’ “final album” and potential split. They were quick to point out that back in 2017, the band had promoted their Saturation III project as “the last studio album by Brockhampton,” before going on to release two more studio albums afterwards.

However, band member, Romil Hemani, told GQ in May that he expected the band would part ways soon. He said they wanted to focus on their individual passions.

“Everybody’s given their life for the last 10 years,” he said. “And at a certain point, people deserve to give their lives to themselves. So it feels like it’s time to let everyone just spread their wings and do the things that they want to do.”

Concurrently, bandleader, Abstract announced a new solo album was currently in the works, following his 2019 album, Arizona Baby. On July 16, he dropped “Slugger”, an independent single featuring rappers, $not and Slowthai.

Brockhampton announced their tour, ‘Hear Right Now’, set to start on August 1 in Chicago. It follows original plans of a tour behind their 2019 album, Ginger, that was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Kevin Abstract Confirms BROCKHAMPTON Album Dropping This Year

BROCKHAMPTON will be back this year

Kevin Abstract has been very active recently. The BROCKHAMPTON frontman has been teasing that he will release a new solo album soon. He also just dropped a new single titled “SLUGGER“, featuring $NOT and Slowthai. Soon after, he let fans know on Twitter that his group will be returning with a new album before the end of 2021.

The new project will serve as BROCKHAMPTON’s second studio album of the year. Their previous album, Roadrunnner: New Light, New Machine, dropped in April with features from A$AP Rocky, JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, and more. It peaked at #11 on the Billboard 200.

They’re keeping their streak going

For the past four years, BROCKHAMPTON has not slowed down. Since 2017, they’ve released six studio albums, most notably the highly praised Saturation trilogy.

BROCKHAMPTON

While they’ve been on a crazy run, it may be coming to an end. Shortly before the release of Roadrunner, Abstract tweeted that their next two albums will be their last. While not much is known about their next project, it very well could be BROCKHAMPTON’s finale.

Alongside the announcement, the self-proclaimed boy band just earned themselves a huge GQ feature.

BROCKHAMPTON Drops Music Video for ‘DON’T SHOOT UP THE PARTY’

BROCKHAMPTON is back with another crazy and colorful music video

BROCKHAMPTON is not new to the crazy music video game. In their latest one, “DON’T SHOOT UP THE PARTY,” we see the group members with a canister of what appears to be nitrous oxide. Later, we see them attempt to revive a member, Matt, who is dying. Overall, this video is incredibly experimental. It features fast cuts, interesting angles, little context, and general craziness.

“What a miracle we dreamed, a million stories to tеll / You are now tuned in, baby, to the nеw classic”

Historically, BROCKHAMPTON has always prided itself on being experimental and unique within the hip-hop community. With members of multiple races, ethnicities, sexualities, and backgrounds, the group rose to fame by standing out. The verses in “DON’T SHOOT UP THE PARTY” reference these struggles within the band members through hard-hitting lyrics.

Music videos like this simply show fans and new viewers that the group has no intentions of conforming to the norms of the music industry. In response, fans of the group had mostly positive things to say, joking about the psychedelic feel of the video. Overall, fans have come to expect this kind of content from them. Seeing a group like BROCKHAMPTON continue to break norms is refreshing and needed in the rap community.

“DON’T SHOOT UP THE PARTY” is on their new album: ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINEavailable on all platforms.

BROCKHAMPTON Tease New Project

BROCKHAMPTON have finally returned after a lengthy absence on social media. In a one-minute clip released today, the hip-hop collective appears to be teasing a forthcoming studio album. Coupled with psychedelic visuals and a hard-hitting trap beat, the video marks BH’s first Instagram post since January 2020. Notably, frontman Kevin Abstract’s signature vocals are on display in a brief taste of what’s to come.

During the early part of quarantine, the group quietly released a handful of singles online as part of their “Technical Difficulties” project, including collaborations with JPEGMAFIA and Ryan Beatty. BROCKHAMPTON’s most recent studio album, GINGER, was released during the summer of 2019 and spawned their hit single “SUGAR”. With the new year just beginning, fans can now rejoice that the “hardest working boyband” is back in business!
