After four nominations in 2020, Lucky Daye took home his first Grammy on Sunday for his “Table For Two” album.
Daye beat Robert Glasper, Cory Henry, Hiatus Kaiyote, Eric Bellinger, and Masego to win Best Progressive R&B Album.
After his win, Daye took to Twitter to say, “I’m so thankful for you all! look what we did!!!”
Best Progressive R&B Album
This award first started out as the ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’ in 2012. Frank Ocean was then the first recipient of the Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Channel Orange.”
A few notable winners include Rhianna, Beyoncé, and The Weekend.
Then, in 2020, the Grammys chose to rename this award to ‘Best Progressive R&B Album.’
CEO of Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr. said that the award process is continually being evaluated to “ensure the Grammy Awards are inclusive and reflect the current state of the music industry.”
The first winner under the new title of Best Progressive R&B Album was Thundercat with his album “It Is What It Is.”
Lucky Daye
David Debrandon Brown, a 36-year-old from New Orleans, now goes by the name ‘Lucky Daye.’
At 19, Brown also competed in season four of American Idol.
After his debut on the show in 2005, Brown then went on to get signed by Keep Cool Records and RCA Records.
Under these labels, Brown also started to go by Lucky Daye and released his first EP entitled “I” in November 2018. Daye released his first studio album, “Painted,” in less than a year.
In 2020, his work on “Painted” scored him four Grammy nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards.
Currently, Daye is finishing his Candy Drip Tour with Joyce Wrice.
