Joey Bada$$ & Ab-Soul Reflect On Capitol STEEZ’s Death In New Song ‘Survivor’s Guilt’

Joey Bada$$ dropped his new song “Survivor’s Guilt” which sees the Brooklyn rapper touching on the death of Capital STEEZ. Unfortunately, Steez took his own life almost 10 years ago at the young ripe age of 19 years old. This new record comes on the late Capital STEEZ’s birthday & features an interlude from TDE’s Ab-Soul recounting their first meeting. Joey & the entire Pro Era collective were heavily impacted by the death of who many believe could’ve become one of the greatest. Check out the full song dedicated to both Capital Steez & his cousin Junior B:

Joey & Ab-Soul’s Lyrics About Steez

Despite not getting a verse from Ab-Soul, it’s amazing hearing these two express their raw emotions on their contributions. “Now my n-gga gone, he will never be forgotten/Ever since he left I’ve just been struggling without him,” is just one example of the lines Joey spits in reference to his late friend & collaborator Capital Steez. Ab-Soul gives an insightful interlude that truly paints the story of his connection with Steez & Pro Era in totality. After showing a mutual friend music before meeting Steez, Soul says, “Fast forward a year later, I go back to New York and then I meet this kid. He’s like, ‘I don’t know if you remember me and my homies, the Pro Era.’ I was like, ‘Yeah! What’s your name?’ He said, ‘Capital STEEZ.'” Honestly, it would’ve been exciting to see the music all 3 artists could make together.

Pro Era’s Next Album Release From The Leader

In short, Joey is getting ready to release his new album 2000 which serves as a follow up to his debut mixtape 1999. Many fans hold high expectations for this new Pro Era project from the collective’s leader himself. Overall, this new song dedicated to Captial Steez is a great indicator for the direction & headspace Joey’s in. Are you excited & ready for new Joey Bada$$ music? Joey Bada$$ On XXXTenacion And Capital Steez

Joey Bada$$ recently commented on the similarities between XXXTentacion (X) and Capital Steez. The friendship between Capital Steez and Joey goes back to high school. These two Brooklyn-based rappers formed Pro Era in 2011 with CJ Fly and Power Pleasant.

A year later, Capital Steez committed suicide on Christmas Eve. Joey Bada$$ spent multiple years working with Capital Steez before his death.

He also got a chance to work with X.

X & Bada$$

XXXTentacion and Joey Bada$$ collaborated for X’s song “Infinity (888)” which was released in 2018. In the same year, someone shot X in Florida.

Now, four years after X’s death, Joey Bada$$ has spoken about both X’s and Capital Steez’s personalities. In an interview with Montreality, Joey Bada$$ described X as “super humble, and super competitive too.”

He felt the competitive energy when he joined X in Miami to work on “Infinity.” He went on to say that the only other artist he felt that competitive spirit around was Capital Steez.

According to Joey, X was a unique artist because “he had so much range.” He also mentioned that the feeling of being a particular person was mutual between him and X.

Joey believes that X has left an imprint on the rising generation that will lead to X influencing them. Bada$$ said, “My generation was able to influence his, and he was able to influence the next one.”

While Joey Bada$$ misses X’s heart in spirit, he knows “him and Steez is like kicking it.” Joey Bada$$ has told fans to look for a new album by the end of 2022. This comes two years after his EP “The Light Pack” in 2020.
