The revolution will not be televised, even though social media and television say different. With all the events happening, especially under the so-called “Trump Regime”, (NFL protests, NBA athletes protesting, police brutality among the minorities, the events in Charlottesville, Virginia) this was definitely needed. Not late great Gil Scott Heron, but something for our generation. The soulful singer-guitarist from London, England, first discovered by A$AP Rocky, dropped a revolutionary banger yesterday, that leaves the listener’s ear reminiscent of the 1960s. With the classic guitar rifts and 1960ish percussions, mixed with the vocals of Mr. Revolutionary Nas. “What’s The Word” is a question we ask ourselves, as we watch the events unraveling in our society.
A few days ago, Dip Set affiliated super producer Araab Muzik (as his female voice tag implements) released his brand new single “Wanted“. The melodic track features eccentric and innovative artist Nevelle Virococha. Now this is not your average, hardcore, New York gritty track. The style we all loved Araab Muzik for. The Electronic Dreamproducer actually stepped out of his lane for this single. From the hypnotic melody of the snares, hats and strings to the dramatically haunting vocals of Nevelle Virococha featured. This track is a mixture of pop, hip hop, trap, electronica, rave music, jazz and Rhythm & Blues conglomerated to one beautiful blend. Three minutes and fifty three seconds of audio therapy for the ear drum.
Timbo Teases Fans On Twitter with Meek Mill and Jigga Collab
Last month, Virginia’s own Timbo the King had the fans and hip heads going crazy. The futuristic super producer was challenged by Ruff Ryders own Swizz Beatz to an epic beat battle. The phrase “I’m with the smoke” was used as many times as sneak peaks posted to each other. The internet went crazy.
Kool G Rap, Fame and Free Collab On Wise Guys Video
This is definitely what the streets been waiting for. Finally the end to cliche trap videos, and the reemergence of cinematic hip hop videos. Hip Hop Veteran Kool G Rap marries the streets, lyricism and urban cinema in, what seems like a blockbuster, “Wise Guys” music video. The video was directed by Ill Mannered Films and Photography. The Road to the Riches emcee also showed he is not selfish with the microphone buffet. The former Juice Crew member recruited more vets of the game. Former Roc-A-Fella artist Philadelphia Freeway, and MOP‘s own Lil Fame.
The visual does not even seem like a music video, as it starts out like any hood movie would. It is Belly, State Property, Shottas, and any other hood movie we grew up on, all in one. Not to mention the awesome lyricism that captures every lit scene in the video. Its action from beginning to end. Both video and song. The Fast Life emcee spits fire in an abandon warehouse. Lil Fame spits on a rooftop in the hood. Former State Property affiliate Freeway stays gritty in an alley way between abandon warehouses. A montage of shooting scenes and a deal gone bad scenario inhabits the in-between. This video leaves the eyes fast paced and constant in movement. It also leaves the audience wanting more. Like a good movie, with dope lyrics, and a interesting “edge of your seat” type of vibe. The story line was excellent as well. If I was Ebert, I would give it two turntables up. A Must See for Hip Hop Heads all over!
Good news Gambino lovers. Donald Glover decided not to close the musical book on his alter ego, Childish Gambino. During an interview with BBC Radio 1, Glover explained that living in the United Kingdom allowed him to open a fresh box of musical inspiration.
Glover has been residing in London since January 2017 to film the new Star Wars movie. He told Clara Amfo of BBC Radio 1 that London has been “very instrumental” to his music.
Glover said he’s been keeping close tabs on UK-based talent, but he hasn’t tapped anyone to collaborate on his upcoming work. “I have met a bunch of UK artists and definitely listened to some of their music,” he shared with Amfo. “I’m trying to see who is available for certain things but I haven’t asked anybody.”
So what is Glover waiting for? Perfection … maybe? “I want to make sure it’s ready,” he explained.
If you recall, in June, Glover told Governors Ball attendees he plans to put Childish Gambino to rest: “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.” He later explained to Huffington Post he was weary of his musical work becoming too mainstream.
One could argue that Gambino is definitely on everyone’s radar, especially since Redbone appeared on the soundtrack of the hit horror flick Get Out.
In June, Redbone which is the second single from, Awaken, My Love! went double platinum. The song peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts. (August 19, 2017)
It turns out living in London is also giving Glover an opportunity to create the second season of Atlanta. “It’s almost ready,” he shared during the BBC Radio 1 interview. “I think it’s better than the first season. You just have to wait a little longer.”
