#FMTrends: Future & Cher Unite as Everyday People in Gap Ad

Future & Cher Unite as Everyday People in Gap Ad

What do you get when you bring a rapper and the Goddess of Pop together for an apparel ad? Everyday people who are closing the cultural and generational gap. Well, at least that’s what The Gap is trying to do in its “Meet Me in The Gap” fall campaign with Future and Cher.

The iconic American clothing company paired Cher and Future for a 30-second video where the duo covers Sly and the Family Stone’s 1968 mid-tempo, pop song “Everyday People.”

Canadian music video director, Julien Christian Lutz aka Director X, had the two meet on a vibrant white staircase where Cher took the lead while Future ad-libbed a couple of lines.

The pairing of their artistic styles seemed out of balance and disconnected. But the primary goal for The Gap is to show how two people from two different generations and two cultures can come together.

“Uniting two superstars like Cher and Future proves that no matter how different we seem, there is always a common thread that we just might not have discovered yet,” Gap’s chief marketing officer Craig Brommers said in a statement.

Surprisingly, Cher didn’t know who Future was until she had an opportunity to work with him for the Gap campaign. But this didn’t stop the legendary songstress from giving it a shot. “I knew it would be so fun to work with someone who is completely unlike me, and who is young, really talented and striving,” she said.

“There was a great dynamic when working with Cher and we felt like we were doing something so much bigger than the two of us” said Future. “Gap is not only bringing two cultures together but bringing everyone together through the music and the style. It’s really about everyday people.”

Media Takeover

Beginning on September 18th, you’ll start to see the “Meet Me at the Gap” campaign on television, outdoor, mobile, social, print, in-store and digital video channels including Vevo, Hulu and YouTube.

The Gap is also going to launch a namesake channel on Spotify which will start with a ‘Meet me in the Gap’ mashup playlist.

And for those of you who are still flipping the pages of fashion magazines, the print campaign will be featured in both the Vogue 125th anniversary issue and the GQ 60th anniversary issue.

Dear Gap,

The 2017 fall campaign takes me back to 2006 when the company participated in the fight against AIDS and launched the (RED) campaign

Needless to say, the message of “Meet Me at the Gap” has me truly INSPI(RED).

Sincerely,

@TCsViews
