#FMSpotlight: O-Dash – ‘POWER’ (Listen)

O-Dash‘s album POWER gives individuals that oomph they’ve been searching for to tackle their goals. Loaded with lyrics that inspire all walks of life, the 8-track LP follows its title effortlessly. Furthermore, POWER implies that everyone can control their destiny. With a positive outlook, a support system, and determination, anything is possible to achieve.

When a person takes out negative influences and thinking patterns, they’ll reach their full potential. In the end, this person will feel secure and more sure of where they’re headed in life.

O-Dash elaborates on the album’s theme, saying

When you put a positive outlook on something, a goal, vision, etc., you’ll see the growth. Thinking negatively or acting negatively will not give you positive results.

Additionally, the company and energy around you will also pull you down. So it would be best to have positive people with positive energy to see a change. That’s how you rise as a person and us a people when you do positive things.

Not to mention O-Dash’s experiences propel listeners to keep going. His rise to stardom reassures them that everything will work out in the end. All it ever takes is perseverance.

As he says in “OSVNSS (Intro),” “It ain’t how you start/it’s more of how you finish.”

Songs like “Story Torn,” “Y.K.M.B (You Know My Body feat. Crillz)”, and “Talkin’ Dashy (feat. Abbie Rose’)” also mirror the same optimistic mantra.

Then there’s “All Vibez (feat. JP Caruzzo),” which calls attention to those who are resistant to change. The song enforces why growth is a key component to success. In drawing things to a close, “Contagious” and “Dope Dick” explore the rapper’s views on relationships. Ultimately, both records showcase the rapper’s ability to grow through what he goes through.

Lines like this serve as an example “Whatever could’ve been, we won’t ever know/Hope you well off and doing better though.”

Sonically, POWER relishes in various trap beats. It also adds genres like R&B, boom-bap, and hard-knocking hip-hop instrumentals into the mix. However, the real ear-grabber is “OSVNSS (Intro)” because O-Dash spits in an acapella style.

All-in-all, POWER is the perfect album to play when you’re in a funk or hopeless about hitting the big time.

O-Dash’s impactful bars give you that glimpse of hope to keep going.

Circling back to “Story Torn,” fans can expect to hear a story about O-Dash being betrayed by someone whose actions shifted his future pursuits. Yet, instead of letting this situation tear him down, it elevated his better judgment. In the end, the emcee came out victorious.

He spits, “All faith, what more can I say? Don’t know how it starts/The sun is in the way/I’ma go for mine/And that won’t be the day.”

“Contagious” is also a notable track off POWER. In short, the rapper reflects on a relationship that withered as time progressed. Their close-knit connection was described as the following “You was Mya, I was Jay, got the best of me.” But like the seasons, the energy shifted. Although they’ve gone their separate ways, he wishes her nothing but the best. He’s taken a lot from the relationship that can apply to a future relationship.

O-DASH is a rapper from Plainfield, NJ, repping the cornerstone movement (ACC.).

He put his Jersey vision to the forefront in the mid-2000s with his first mixtape Grindin. He’s also dropped an LP called DASH (DO ALL S#!% HEAVY) in August 2020 and Definition of Dash (D.O.D) in 2018.

His goal is to leave a mark with his nostalgic, timeless sound. Subsequently, DASH wants to curve the narrative and break the mold with New Jersey talent.
