Schoolboy Q the Actor?
Los Angeles rapper Schoolboy Q is trying something a little new: acting. The “Collard Greens” rapper is confirmed to voice an animated version of himself in upcoming series called The Freak Brothers.
According to Deadline, the series based on The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. Created by Gilbert Shelton, this underground cult comic follows three stoner characters. After smoking a magical strain of weed in 1969, they are transported 50 years into the future (2020), bringing their 60’s San Fransico demeanor to the modern world.

In addition to being a part of an animated series, SchoolBoy Q also joins a great cast!
Woody Harrelson is voicing laid-back Freewheelin’ Franklin Freek, John Goodman to voice man-child Fat Freedy Freekowtski, and Pete Davidson is voicing Phineas T. Phreakers. As well, Adam Devine and Blake Anderson (Workaholics). Devine and Blake will play Chuck and Charlie. Two weed savants on the hunt for the next side-hustle with hearts of gold. With all these male-dominant energies, we should have some femininity! Hence, the series will also star Tiffany Haddish as Kitty. Also, La La Anthony will present herself as a social-advocate lawyer– Gretchen.
Furthermore, Season 1 includes eight episodes that have wrapped production already. The studios behind Rick & Morty, Starburns Industries, and Pure Imagination organized the animation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a broadcaster/streamer yet.
Again, the cast seems to be pretty excited for the series. Particularly Anthony, which she views as her dream role by saying:
“I have been into cartoons and animation for as long as I can remember and have dreamed of having the opportunity to voice an animated series. And to share the screen with some of the greatest comedians of our time is amazing. I’m excited to be a part of this project and can’t wait for fans to see the show.”
Harrelson adding, “This show is really funny, it’s pure entertainment. If you’re a stoner it’s probably a little funnier, but either way, it’s a great ride.” Davidson also comments, “When you can do a cartoon about weed, you do it. Then you wake up the next day and call your team and make sure you weren’t high and this is a real thing.” Then Haddish adds, “I’ve always wanted to play a pussy. There’s nothing funny about recording in a closet, I’ve never wanted to be in the closet and I try to live my life outside of it.”
It sounds pretty funny and entertaining. Even though the new episodes are not out yet, including the one with Schoolboy Q. You can check out the few episodes on youtube. Better yet, you can watch one below. See it as an appetizer before the main course.
