Dr. Dre’s Ex-Wife Wins a $100 Million Divorce Settlement

It has been a hard-fought battle, but Dr. Dre is finally divorced. He and his ex-wife have been together since 1996, shortly after his transition from Deathrow Records to founding Aftermath Entertainment. Their union produced their children, Truice and Truly, now adults. Before their marriage, Dre was controversial in the 80s and early 90s, and he frequented the news for his violent rages against his female companions and colleagues. However, throughout the years during their marriage, it seemed as if it was all success and little to no negative news–until 2020 when the two split.

A Tumultuous Process

Nicole Plotzker-Young filed for divorce in June 2020, officially citing irreconcilable differences. Daily Mail referenced court documents filed by Mrs. Young in November 2020, which alleged that Andre ‘Dr. Dre’ Young was abusive and committed “rampant and repeated marital misconduct.” Furthermore, although there was a prenuptial agreement, Mrs. Young claimed that she signed it under duress, and Dre later destroyed the document as a “romantic gesture.” Mr. Young’s representation, Laura Wasser of the King Law Firm, denied these allegations. According to Mrs. Young, Laura Wesser served as the Young family lawyer since the couple was engaged in 1996. Samantha Spector and Lisa Helfend Meyer, Mrs. Young’s attorneys, later requested to remove Wesser from Dr. Dre’s legal team because of the conflict of interest.

In January 2021, Dr. Dre suffered a brain aneurysm and was hospitalized. Things worsened for him when criminals burglarized his home during his hospital stay.  And shortly after his release, a judge ordered him to pay 2 million dollars a month in temporary spousal support.

In October 2021, he received additional divorce papers at his grandmother’s funeral. Later that month, a judge declared that Dr. Dre and Mrs. Young were legally single, although the divorce was not final.

Dre’s Final Divorce Order

In the final order, Dr. Dre retained stock investments, proceeds from his Beats by Dre enterprise, rights to his music, real estate property, and six vehicles. Mrs. Young received four cars, clothing, jewelry, other accessories, and a settlement of 100.2 million dollars. Dr. Dre will split the large sum into two 50 million dollar payments, the first taking place this month and another next year, which will negate any continuation of spousal support or compensation for legal fees. The final proceedings ended their 25-year relationship on December 28th.

Dr. Dre Ordered to Pay Estranged Wife Additional $1.5 Million Amid Ongoing Divorce

New Court Order

Amid an ongoing divorce battle, Dr. Dre has been ordered by a judge to pay his estranged wife Nicole Young an additional $1.5M. That sum is to cover all legal fees accumulated by Young from the time of the divorce filing. (July, 2021) The $1.5M is an addition to the $300k a month that Dr. Dre was already paying her in spousal support which amounted to over $3.5M a year.

Nicole Young filed for divorce from Dr. Dre in June 2020, citing irreconcilable differences. They married in 1996, and were together for 24 years. Dr. Dre claims that the two of them signed a prenup that is still enforceable, however, Young has disputed the validity of it. She claims that she signed a prenup in 1996, after feeling pressured to do so, but Dr. Dre. tore it up years later in front for her as a grand gesture of his love for her. According to Young, the document said that she and Dr. Dre would split all assets, including any cash and real estate. She claims that she is entitled to half of his $800M fortune, and is seeking $400M.

Dr. Dre. and His Messy Divorce Battle

The divorce has become very messy. According to court documents, Dr. Dre was abusive towards Young in the marriage. She claimed that Dr. Dre held a gun to her head on two occasions, once in 2000, and then again in 2001. Young also claimed that he punched her in the face on two occasions, and kicked down their bedroom door as she hid from his rage in 2016. Just days after Young made the appalling accusations against Dr. Dre, he suffered a brain aneurysm that left him fighting for his life in the ICU of Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He was released from the hospital two weeks later, and returned home where he received 24/7 care as he recovered.

Earlier this month, Dr. Dre accused Young of embezzlement. He filed a lawsuit against her claiming that she stole approximately $353, 571.85 from a bank account that was set up for his Recording One music studio located in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The lawsuit states that Young “decimated” the bank account using the funds for her own personal obligations.

Dr. Dre Ordered To Pay Money Every Month To Ex-Wife

Dr. Dre Ordered To Pay Money Every Month To Ex-Wife

The court system has decided on a specific case following an extended battle. Dr. Dre’s e-wife wins in divorce court. His ex-wife was ordered to receive $293,306 a month from the 56-year-old. Dr. Dre was ordered to pay money every month to his ex-wife. By the documents, spousal support will be paid on the first of every month starting August 1, 2021. As part of the agreement, Dre will pay a total of $3,519,672 per year until Young remarries, passes away, or enters a new domestic partnership. Dre will also pay for Young’s health insurance.

They are still fighting over their prenuptial agreement. In addition to their twenty-four-year marriage, they have two adult children together. Children Truice, 24, and Truly, 20, born to the couple, are adults, so child support or custody is not disputed.

Laura Wasser, Dr. Dre’s attorney, filed for a bifurcation of the couple through a motion before a judge. Young’s “false allegations of domestic violence” demonstrate that their marriage cannot be repaired.

How It Led To Divorce

In June 2020, Young filed for divorce. Subpoenas were reportedly issued to his alleged mistresses to appear in court as evidence in the messy divorce process. Among the three women, Jillian Speer, Crystal Sierra – also known as Crystal Rodgers – and Kili Anderson hired a lawyer to fight the request and claim that Young wants information she can obtain through other channels.

Nicole said they signed a prenup before getting married in the petition. She claimed, however, that he ripped it apart after they got married.

Dre had $262 million in cash and Apple stock, according to Nicole. The cost of living for them was $2.3 million per month, according to her.

The divorce is yet to be finalized.

Dr. Dre Gives Estranged Wife $2 Million

Dre has attempted not to give his estranged wife $2 million, but if there’s a will, there is a way. In light of his hospitalization, Dr. Dre Wednesday missed his divorce case hearing to allow for his recovery. Their official divorce started in June 2020; a constant back and forth went on to settle the amount given to his wife. As they settle their divorce, Dre has been providing his estranged wife with $293,306 a month for living expenses.

Moreover, Dre believes it’s more than enough, but Nicole Young thinks otherwise.  This whole case has brought a lot of attention to the two, especially when last year in October, Dre’s business partner filed a report against Nicole for embezzlement. In court, there is evidence of her withdrawing $353,571.85 in August, but her legal team believed it to be a PR stunt from Aundre (Dr. Dre). This accusation came after she attempted to approve her $1.9 million request a month but was denied.

Dr. Dre Gives Estranged Wife $2 Million to Cover Living Expenses

As time passed, she was able to wait it out and officially raise the bar. She believes that $2 million is more acceptable for her temporary spousal support, and she has even filed the documents. Nicole shares that Dre has more than enough to pay for the expenses based on the money he has in cash and what he achieved with Apple stock. Finally, legal documents share that Dre will now give his estranged wife $2 million to cover living expenses.
