Eve & Trina Are Set to Battle on Verzuz

Eve and Trina are set to face off in a Verzuz battle on June 16!

Two of the prolific female rappers of the early 2000s are set to battle on Verzuz next week! Trina will go against Eve in a battle on June 16.

Trina and Eve’s work both speak for themselves. Eve, the queen of the Ruff Ryders, has a long list of hit singles from “Who’s That Girl” & “Let Me Blow Ya Mind”. Trina, likewise, also has produced some impactful songs in her career including “Da Baddest B*tch” & “Here We Go”. In addition, this battle was announced on social media with a list of the other Verzuz events for this summer.

On June 26, friends and frequent collaborators Bow Wow and Soulja Boy are set to battle. As they are known for, Soulja and Bow Wow have been trolling each other on social media for weeks now, each taking shots at the other’s musical catalog, cultural impact, and more. They are both legendary artists in their own right. For instance, Soulja Boy and Bow Wow were leaders in moving the rap game into the internet age in the early 2000s. This should be an interesting battle to say the least!

Moreover, there is also a third hidden battle lined-up for July 1, hosted by Essence. Additionally, Verzuz shared that there is an upcoming “International VERZUZ” coming soon.

This announcement comes after Verzuz co-creators Timbaland and Swizz Beatz held a rematch battle for a live audience.  Verzuz was  bought by Triller earlier this year.  Since then, featured recent face-offs include Method Man and Redman to the Isley Brothers vs. Earth, Wind & Fire.

The battle between Eve and Trina is sure to be a treat.  We can’t wait to see what Verzuz has to offer in the future!

DMX’s First Posthumous Single, ‘Hood Blues,’ Feat. Griselda is Out

DMX’s posthumous album, ‘Exodus,’ comes out at midnight.

While our hearts remain heavy from DMX’s untimely passing, our spirits lift upon the release of his new lead single.

This may be a posthumous release, X finished it up right before his passing.  His first solo LP since 2012, the Ruff Ryder detailed that this project has the most features he’s ever had, and he wasn’t kidding.  Every single track on the upcoming album has features, and they’re not just anybody.  Among others, there’s Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, The Lox, Lil Wayne, Bono, Nas has two, one of which is with Jay-Z, with Swizz Beats on the boards for all of it.  However, the lead single, ‘Hood Blues,’ featuring the Griselda boys had particularly high anticipation.  Coming out earlier this week, it completely surpassed the generous expectations.

“X the illest, the realest”

Without DMX and the Ruff Ryders, there simply is no Griselda.  Already dominating yet another year in Hip-Hop, Griselda’s appearance on this album is a major deal, and boy did they treat it that way.  The beat is a great atmosphere, a jazzy 70’s type instrumental.  Westside Gunn kicks off the song doing his thing, with notably improved lyricism and his trademark adlibs in the background.  Benny the Butcher, a current leader in the game, continues his streak with a nice dose of quotable lyrics.  While Benny is the lyrical heavyweight, Conway gets the last verse of the three.  Conway, who recently performed on The Tonight Show, has been the hottest of the three lately and his verse proves it; his lyrics, sharp and his flow, cunning.

However, it’s X that we’re here for and he comes seriously correct with the KO at the end.  It’s hard to predict how a 50-year rapper is going to sound but the Dark Man proves that he still had it in him until the very end.  His themes are the same as usual, but feel fresh and refined.  Assuming the same hunger is found throughout the other tracks, it looks like DMX will have yet another classic in his legendary discography.  We just wish he was still here to see how proud it’s gonna make all of us.  RIP DMX forever.

JAY-Z Cleared A 12 Million Dollar Debt To Def Jam For DMX

During a recent interview with “The Breakfast Club“, Ruff Ryders co-founders Chivon, Waah, and Dee Dean revealed how JAY-Z allowed DMX to leave Def Jam without having to pay a 12 million dollar debt owed to the company.

JAY-Z cleared debt for DMX and Ruff Ryders

“What had happened was JAY-Z called DMX and told him, ‘The inmates have took over the prison.'”Dean said. “And when your man JAY-Z got in position, X felt that he didn’t honor him in a proper way and hold weight like he was supposed to.” They then added that their egos got the best of them once JAY became president of Def Jam in 2004, which led to their beef.

“The good part about Def Jam — and I gotta give it to Hov — X was in debt over there. He probably owed about $12 million,” Dean revealed. When DMX left Def Jam for Sony, he said that Hov “released him and wiped off the debt clean and let him go. He didn’t have to pay nothing back.”

We can add this to the list of several good deeds done by the MaNyFacedGod rapper. Never change, JAY-Z.
