#HipHop4Her: Selfie Self Confidence
SELFIE SELF CONFIDENCE
It’s the age of the Selfies and the millennials are all taking advantage of the trend but this phenomenon just might be making our generation self-absorbed.
Young adults spend most of their days taking pictures of themselves just to post on social media for high praises and compliments. They focus on details such as lighting, angles, poses, filters and facial expressions – tips on how to take the perfect selfie. The youth of society has turned a picture into a symbol of perfection among their peers and have changed a form of self-expression into self-obsession.
There is a fixation with likes on social media platforms; depending on how many likes a person receives will result in how they feel about themselves as a person. Growing up and shaping into your body as a young adult is already hard with the braces, acne, glasses and bad hair days without having to add the “perfect selfie” into the mix. When did this society become such narcissistic brats? Since when has a picture become a representation of young adults’ self-worth and value?
This 21st century phenomenon has become one of the motives of low self-esteem amongst this generation. It is a serious reflection of sexual objectification amid females and promotes sexism; it gives off the impression that they are merely but sexual beings. If they don’t turn their waist a certain angle to show their butt or wear a low v-cut shirt to show their breasts they won’t get as many compliments on their beauty. With men, it’s all about the egoistic deliberation. Men feel the necessity to take pictures with money (that most likely isn’t theirs), pose in front of luxury cars and while holding bottles to give off the depiction of this lavish lifestyle.
Remember when you were a little kid and every time you posed for the camera you would stick your tongue out or make your cheeks really big? You would jump around in the backyard all or run around the house in your underwear screaming “mommy look at me!” You were so natural and free; without deceit and without shrewdness. #SELFIE needs to be re-defined from: self-obsession, self-absorbed and self-seeking to self-acceptance, self-confidence and self-love.

#HipHop4Her: When Too Little Is Too Much
If you got it, flaunt it right? I believe this is true. If you have nice teeth, you should smile more. You have nice legs; show them off in the sexiest heels. If you have a nice butt, alright maybe you shouldn’t take every picture showing your butt. After a while it’s like OK, we get it! Of course women bask in their beauty, but at the same time it is also distasteful to constantly show off what you’re working with. So often I see women taking pictures in itty-bitty shorts, or laying down in their bra. Honestly half the time, it’s usually these type of females who have serious self-esteem issues. They seek the heart-eye emoji’s and the full inboxes.
How can anyone, matter of fact any MAN take a women like this seriously? What does she have to offer if she’s already offering it to everybody else? And these are the same females crying “lonely” when it’s raining out. GIRL BYE! It shouldn’t take instagram and Facebook “likes” to make a woman feel better. I believe she has to love herself enough to be modest, be mysterious and build standards for herself. No one needs to know that you’re feeling horny tonight, or that your panties match your bra. Keep it to yourself.
The same thing goes for clothing. Something that many of women choose not to put on. I think there is a fine line between sexy and tacky. Wearing a dress with a deep plunge in the front or back can be sexy. Wearing a sheer shirt with pasties is tacky. And wearing a sheer shirt without covering your breast is even worse. You know the saying “less is more?” Yea, well it does not apply in this area. Women make this mistake where just because a celebrity did it, we can do it too… NO. We cannot always pull off something Rihanna wore. She’s Rihanna for a reason.
I always think of it this way, if the top half of the outfit is showing something, then the bottom half should be modest. The men don’t need to see everything. You want to actually awe him when he finally gets to take your clothes off. So few women realize that when they show less, they become more appealing. They look as if they can hold conversation, rather than just hold it down in the bedroom. They look worthy of being “wifey material.” Try covering up for once.
