J.I.D Dropping New Single On Friday, Featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate

Atlanta artist J.I.D has announced that he is dropping new music on Friday. Yesterday rap artist announced his single, “Surround Sound” will feature 21 Savage and Baby Tate.

J.I.D shared a 45 second clip of the new single on Twitter. The geniuses behind the J.I.D track are producers DJ Scheme and Christo.

The Successes of J.I.D

Born Destin Choice Route, J.I.D has been on an upward climb since he signed to J.Cole’s recording label, Dreamville back in 2017. The east Atlanta rapper/singer was the fourth member of Atlanta music collective, Spillage Village. They released Spilligon under Dreamville in 2020. Between him and artist 6lack, this smooth rendition of gospel meets folk music proved that a new wave of music is in emergence.

Contributing to his success is feature with Imagine Dragons. This collaboration with Imagine Dragons begat “Enemy” featuring J.I.D. and is the theme song for the popular Netfilx series Arcane. The feature with the alternative rock band ultimately earned them a No.1 on Billboard’s Top TV Songs charts.

Prior to announcing his new song “Surround Sound,” Conway The Machine featured him on “Scatter Brain.” Fans went crazy over his melodic vocals and effortless rap verses.

Generally speaking he is referred to as “the GOAT” in his arena of music. Still fans are waiting for J.I.D. to drop his Forever Story album. He has been raving about the album since last year. In a Tweet, he announced, “The Forever Story is the one.”

He has teased several snippets and let’s not forget his song, “Ambassel” which can be heard on the Madden 22 soundtrack. With several features circulating, and the success of his last album DiCaprio2, which dropped three years ago, J.I.D commemorates his growth.

He has given a look at other possible features like Denzel Curry, 6lack, Buddy, and Smino. Perhaps we will have an album soon enough. Until then, look forward to his single, “Surround Sound” to drop this Friday.

Terrace Martin, Arin Ray, And Smino Performed At Jimmy Fallon’s Show

Terrace Martin, Arin Ray, and Smino performed at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” with a feature. The group sang “This Morning” from Martin’s “Drones” album.

The troika’s musical setup included two keys, saxophone and drum machine. Hipstery grocery store set the tone for decoration.

The band’s and cameraman’s co-work turned the stage setup into a whole little world. It almost seems like a music video rather than a live performance.

Another thing to point out is that the crowd or rest of Fallon’s studio is not on the screen. It also adds up to the imagery effect and helps to create the myth around the show.

Terrace Martin Before Performance At Fallon’s

Terrace Martin had also released the new “Drones” album before performing at Fallon’s show. Thirteen songs present a multitude of genres, sounds, and experiments.

“There are touches of R&B, touches of jazz, touches of hip-hop, touches of classical, Cuban music, West African music, house music,” Martin said. “You’re going to hear all elements of Black music within this record. It’s not one element I can leave out if I call myself a true Black artist,” he also added.

“Drones” also features Kendrick LamarSnoop DoggYG, etc.

Smino On The Rise

Smino also performed with Terrace Martin at Jimmy Fallon’s. He recently received much attention as well. Smino participated in the BET Cypher with Tierra Whack, D-Smoke, and Grip. He then signed with Motown Records.

“Smino is one of the most incredible artists in music,” Motown CEO/chairman Ethiopia Habtemariam said in a statement. “His limitless talent, creative vision, ambition, drive, and authenticity has prepared him for this new chapter.”

The label also tweeted the news and expressed their excitement.

As one can see, “This Morning” performers have been notably great recently. After performing at Jimmy Fallon’s show, more perspectives open for Terrace Martin, Arin Ray, and Smino, as they now have more attention. It’s enticing to see what turn their careers will take.

Smino On The Rise: New Deal With Motown Records & Music Video Premiere

Smino has solidified a new deal with Motown Records. Although the St. Louis rapper has his own label, Zero Fatigue, this deal will be a partnership between the two.  Motown’s director expressed his excitement about bringing Smino to the label.

“Smino is one of the most incredible artists in music,” Motown CEO/chairman Ethiopia Habtemariam said in a statement. “His limitless talent, creative vision, ambition, drive and authenticity has prepared him for this new chapter. He is ready to compete at the highest levels and we are grateful to be on this journey with Smino and the Zero Fatigue/EQT team to bring his music and vision to the world.”

With his new song I Deserve circulating, the news of this major deal couldn’t come at a better time. “I wrote this song about my little cousin who was killed in St. Louis last summer,” Smino shared. “I realized I never gave myself time to grieve and get through the emotion of a loss. I found myself singing ‘I deserve it’ out loud till I cried and recorded it.” Check out Smino’s music video premiere below.

Smino: Chris Smith Jr.

Smino was born Chris Smith Jr. in St. Louis, Missouri. He effectively brings a St. Louis swagger, along with unique vocal demonstrations, to his music. His exposure to jazz, blues, and gospel plays a major part in his experimentation in music. Not only did he come from a family of musicians, he once played the drums in his church band! After becoming part of the duo YDOC (“Young Dumb and Outta Control”), Smino ultimately went on to release the mixtape Smeezy Dot Com.

His debut in the hip-hop scene came after he moved to Chicago following his completion of high school. Zero Fatigue was founded in 2014 with singer Ravyn Lenae,  rapper Jay2AintShit, and producer Monte Booker on its roster. Smino was signed to Interscope Records in 2016. Like Motown Records, Interscope is owned by Universal Music Group.

In 2018, Smino released his second full-length studio album, NOIR. This album received a 7.6 rating from Pitchfork. They described his album as a “raunchy bedroom party.” Additionally, it was compared to a “knotty harmony like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.” His collaboration with Chance the Rapper in 2019 set the tone for what was to come for the rapper.

New Opportunities

For the most part, this year has been a cementing time for Smino. He shut down BET’s Cypher alongside Tierra Whack, D-Smoke, and Grip during this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. His new label deal places him alongside hip hop moguls of today like Lil Baby, Migos, Lil Baby, Vince Staples, Lil Yachty, and fellow St. Louis-raised rapper, Nelly.

In short, Motown has built a strong roster and are displaying their “new definition of soul.”

BET Cypher Highlights Tierra Whack, Smino, D Smoke and Grip

Every year, the BET Awards offers artists an opportunity to spit their hottest freestyle bars in the annual lyricism cypher. This year, Tierra Whack, Smino, D Smoke, and Grip took the mic, delivering one of the most consistent and flowing cyphers in years.

Each rapper received roughly 45 seconds on the mic. They spat over a heavy, drill-influenced beat from LA producer DJ Hed.

Tierra Whack

Tierra Whack, the weird and wonderful Philly MC, took the stage first. Ms. Whack, known for her breakneck pacing and unique flow, brought out all the stops. In polka-dot leggings and bright pink rain boots, she left no crumbs calling out haters, repping her city, and honoring the BET’s. “Don’t you question me/don’t you step on me/ a fool is never something I could B-E-T/ See me out in Philly nobody with me/I’m by myself/ Just me and God,” Whack spat, so fast catching her rhymes required multiple rewinds. In true Whack fashion, she closed her verse with unmatched confidence and grace: “I never wanted to be the best/ Cause I always knew I was/ Peace, light and love/ Whack.”

Grip

Next up was Atlanta rapper Grip, who rapidly unleashed from his opening line: “I’m here to slap your favorite rapper.” The rising star signed to Eminem’s Shady Records in June, and his punctuated, motormouth flow fits perfectly with Em’s. “Shoutout to the ones who rejected me/ kiss my ass respectfully/there’s yet to be/a threat… it’s a murder scene, y’all.” In his own way, Grip is making music to be murdered by himself.

Smino

Smino headed up the third verse. The St. Louis rapper’s laid-back confidence on the mic shone through in his trademark Missouri drawl. Smi, who specializes in vocal experimentation, could have added a bit more vocal variety. However, his humor and unique swagger came through. Bars like “Sick need a warning from the CDC/ 6 in the morning with the freek-a-leek,” stood out. Smino even brought his cypher cohort into things, getting a reaction from Tierra Whack when he spat someone was “whack like T.”

D Smoke

Finally, D Smoke, who introduced the cypher, closed with an earth-shattering, standout verse. In his opener, he introduced himself: “Here go/ this no intro for simple minds who don’t know who I am/ Simply instrumental/ young in my prime/ I let both my hands/ Tickle ivories/ Still pick a fight.” Smoke put on a performance rarely seen in a BET cypher, even pulling a piece of chalk from his pocket and drawing on the floor to illustrate his lyrics. He closed out the verse switching into Spanish, visibly exciting his cypher-mates.

Ending on an impossibly high note, this year’s cypher left fans breathless for more. In short, we can’t wait to see what all these artists have coming up next. Watch the full clip here

Isaiah Rashad Releases ‘From The Garden’ Music Video Ft Lil Uzi Vert

Isaiah Rashad and Lil Uzi Vert just released the music video for their latest collaboration from Rashad’s album, The House Is Burning. This is his first release in five years. The single “From The Garden” featuring Lil Uzi. Since it is his first album since 2016’s, The Sun’s Tirade, many consider The House Is Burning is a comeback for the rapper.

The Video

The colorful video shows Isaiah Rashad and Lil Uzi as they stroll through a bustling town late at night. Multiple Isaiahs can be seen walking down the street as people stand in nightclub lines. Police cars patrol the area. Lil Uzi Vert later enters the fray on a four-wheeler for his verse. However it is the music that will make this one a hit.

The Rhymes

The song opens with which opens with an old school sample of horns before launching into a pumping, thrusting beat. Rashad’s flow in “From The Garden’s” is perfectly metered and his provocative rhyme and cadence just behind the beat are just sick! “Came out bussin’, came out puffin’, came out f*ckin’ on your cousin/ I do all these floozies worser than they daddy, but you love her,” Rashad raps in his verse. He deconstructed the song’s origins during a recent interview with Nadeska Alexis for Apple Music.

“From the Garden is the first song I made off the whole album. It had a totally different beat at first and we switched it up ’cause we had what they call demo-itus, so you kinda wanna hear something different.”

Working with Lil Uzi Vert

When asked if he imagined Lil Uzi Vert on the track from the start, he said, “No, not at all. But when we switched the beat I was like, ‘We need something else. This sound’s kinda out of my element”.”

Isaiah Rashad’s debut album, The House Is Burning, entered the Billboard 200 at #7, with nearly 41,000 total album/equivalent units sold. SZA, 6LACK, Smino, and Kenny Beats were among the album’s many high-profile contributors.

#FMSpotlight: Bari – ‘F*@k It…Burn It All Down’

Listen: Bari – ‘F*@k It…Burn It All Down’

Bari has undoubtedly attested to his status as a breakthrough artist.

Ultimately, the 28-year-old formulates a staple of sound that’s solely his and his alone, revolutionizing the style of modern trap music with intermittent basslines, wavering hi-hats, ethereal-like soundscapes, and other stimulating elements composed by producers like VZNBlake WrightMonte BookerAlley Knock, and Niko the Great. Not to mention, the rapper adorns his flossy, melodic cadence with candid lyrics and ebullient ad-libs that you can’t help but to run back.

His songs often tell a tale of a man whos about his business. The lyrics support this notion by highlighting his ability to “work hard, play hard,” his undying hustle, and his list of accomplishments, to name a few. Given all this, it’s no wonder why Bari has the right to brag.

“I always wanted to transcend. I want people to feel something. Feel joy,” he continues.

Bari is a musician based out of St. Louis, Missouri, an area that’s prone to “put a little edge to you.” Around the clock, he strives to be the greatest ever.

The pseudonym, Bari, came about because this is what most people call him. Music was pretty much in his DNA. Growing up, he got to experience the immense love that his parents had for art. Moreover, his father was a poet, so Bari began writing in his younger years. Since then, he’s been solidifying his spot in the hip-hop game.

His inspiration comes from artists like PharrellFutureDrakeLil WayneJay-ZMarvin GayeMichael JacksonColdplayTame Impala, and Kanye West.

Following the momentum of his album, Layer Cake, Bari dropped an 18-track project titled F*@k It…Burn It All Down.

“When your backs against the wall. You are facing steep odds, under pressure. That’s your chance to burn the brightest, your chance to shine the brightest,” he says about the album’s message.

In a word, F*@k It…Burn It All Down finds Bari on go mode as he speaks about his charm, getting to the bag, donning the best drip, and smoking on exotic. He also propels confidence to new heights as he details his accomplishments. Like he briefly states in his song, “All Of A Sudden,” “F*ck being humble.” The tracks also provide listeners with a blend of genres, infectious energy, and melodic direction. The common denominator? You’ll feel super fly once you press play.

Bari resonates with the track “I’m Raw,” where he speaks shortly on what’s been weighing on his mind. In terms of car tunes, he recommends for others to put on “Jiggaman.”

He says about the creative process behind F*@k It…Burn It All Down,

“I recorded about 30 songs. A couple of them dropped as singles. Then, I recorded in different places like St. Louis and Chicago.”

Moving forward, expect Bari to drop Awesomeness44.
