Mac Miller’s Album “Swimming” Gets Posthumous Vans Collection As Album Turns 5

It’s the 5-year anniversary of the late rapper Mac Miller’s fifth studio album, Swimming. The major shoe brand Vans is celebrating the milestone by teaming up with the Pittsburgh rapper’s estate to create a new design for the classic sneaker. Fans are already racing to get the hot new take on the brand’s original sneaker. The shoe reads on the midsole, “MAC MILLER 1992 TIL (infinity sign),” which is his stage name and the year he was born. Plus there is text in circles around a ying-yang sign three times on the shoe’s top box saying, “SWIMMING BY MAC MILLER.”

Where Can I Find The Exclusive Sneaker?

The Swimming sneakers dropped today. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Mac Miller Fund, which is a nonprofit organization. It helps kids in underserved communities by providing them with programming, resources, and opportunities.

Mac Miller’s Tragic Death

The album Swimming was released on August 3, 2018. It was the “100 Grandkids” rapper’s fifth and final studio album. The Pennsylvania rapper released it just over a month before he passed away at the age of 26. The “Missed Calls” rapper passed away from an accidental overdose in September 7, 2018. Malcolm James McCormick struggled with addiction and substance abuse. Therefore, Miller mentioned his struggles in his lyrics often, including tracks such as “Self Care,” “100 Grandkids,” and “Rain.” His songs changed over time as he started to grow up, going from young party boy bars to painful reality bars.

Drug Dealers Sentenced

Ryan Reavis was sentenced to 131 months in prison and Stephen Walter was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison, after pleading guilty. Prosecutors alleged that Reavis, Walter and Cameron Pettit sold drugs to Miller a couple of days before overdose. Pettit delivered the pills to Mac under the direction of Reavis, who was acting under Walter. Pettit pleaded not guilty.

#FMSpotlight: Lee Charm- “Alone” (Listen)

The new “Alone” single from Lee Charm is a psychedelic R&B composition. Chromatic scales go together with “leave me alone” vibes and various kinds of autotune.

The song’s subject is the artist being successful and consequentially willing to spend some time alone.

Very basic, as you can tell.

“I want the world to know that I am a dreamer and a fighter who dares to be himself at any means necessary,” Lee Charm also informs us.

It took me a minute to figure out what else to write about this single. Not that there’s something wrong with it; Lee Charm’s product sounds pretty decent and applicable for various parties and playlists.

It’s just that nothing is exciting enough to point out. Lyrics make sense but don’t create an overall picture in the composition. The instrumental’s chromatic scales are psychedelic but still sound basic.

Maybe the artist just was a little late with releasing his single. The web-punk cover and psychedelic instrumental would’ve been refreshing and caused much attention five-seven years ago. The “leave me alone” mood is also a little off-spot after the pandemic and having to be alone for such a while.

Lee Charm “Alone Verdict

The song is not great, though the artist is. Many music videos on YouTube are only proving the point.

Check out “Where Dey At” from 2016. You can see one of the best examples of shooting a music video using the minimum amount of resources. Thanks to the work of the cameraman and editor, an abandoned building, two people, and a car turn into a cinematographic piece of art.

Also, take a look at “Swimming.” Much more on point in terms of modern loneliness. Though Lee Charm is walking down the successful-looking yard and swims in his own pool, one can tell something saddens him. Or maybe lack of something. Or someone.

Mac Miller’s Drug Dealers’ Trial Date Set

Two years later, Mac Miller’s death is starting to see justice

In one of Hip-Hop’s most tragic losses, Mac Miller passed away from an overdose on September 7, 2018.  One year after his passing, his plugs were apprehended and remain without bail.

Stephen Walter, Cameron Pettit, and Ryan Reavis will appear in court in November this year.  The three men are charged with the sale of cocaine, Xanax, and oxycodone, the latter of which was laced with fentanyl. Fentanyl is the leading cause of overdose deaths in the country; unfortunately, Mac is another statistic.  Though Mac had taken the cocaine and drank alcohol immediately leading up to his passing, the fentanyl is chiefly responsible.

Ryan Reavis had attempted to receive a separate trial from Walter and Pettit, claiming he was only a one-time runner for them.  He was denied this opportunity.  Additionally, Reavis is facing charges for, possession of prescription drugs, marijuana, paraphernalia, manufacturing of prohibited weaponry, and fraudulent schemes and artifices.

Though Mac’s struggles with drugs were apparent throughout his career, it will always be a tragedy.  When making ‘Faces‘ in 2014, he was seemingly on the verge of multiple overdoses.  However, in the subsequent four years, Mac showed major signs of improvement.  By the time he made ‘Swimming,’ he was thinking clearer than he had for the entirety of his career.  Unfortunately, he passed away about one month after the release of the Grammy-nominated album.

Though gone, we thank Mac for leaving us an endless amount of music. With such a vast catalog, we will always have enough music to remind us what a blessing his life still is.  As he continues to rest in peace, we hope that those responsible for his way too early passing receive due justice.
