Timbaland is releasing more NFTs. He is partnering with TIMEpieces, a Web3 Initiative from TIME. It is going to be an original beat from Timbaland interpreted by 14 artists. The collection is going to go for sale at the end of April.
The collection will feature 252 pieces. It will be going for 0.2 ETH plus gas here. That comes out to about $650. Each NFT will also include a surprise pack of 10 sounds from Beatclub, Timbaland’s marketplace for musicians. When Timbaland revealed that he is working with them he said this.
“I am excited to collaborate with TIMEPieces and so many distinct visual artists to bring more exposure to the power of creativity with music in NFTs, and to include Beatclub in the process,”

What is TIMEpieces?
TIMEpieces is TIME’s NFT community division. This collection is TIMEpieces’ fifth collection so far. Each quarter, they select a new artist to drop a new NFT collection. The first collection was by 13-year-old Nyla Hayes.
On top of that, all buyers of the NFT can enter a contest. They will have to create a beat from the sound pack they bought. If they win, then they will receive merch and membership to Beatclub. Beatclub gives access to exclusive placement opportunities with the world’s leading artists and brands. Keith A. Grossman, the president of Time, had this to say about Timbaland.
“Timbaland is widely recognized for pushing music and culture forward. As we embark on our first true music NFT experience at TIMEPieces, his leadership as a creator and the great work he is doing with Beatclub made him the perfect partner to pair with artists who could provide their diverse interpretations of his exclusive beat.”
While selling beats and sounds as NFTs is an interesting gimmick, that is all that it is. Just a gimmick. This is not going to change the music industry.
