Thank you Hip-Hop!

Thanksgiving means the act of expressing or feeling thankfulness.  It is always a time to give thanks and express what we are grateful for.  Hip-Hop’s 50th birthday is coming up and we sure are grateful for this amazing music genre.  It’s always good to give someone or something their flowers before it’s too late.

Hip-Hop certainly needs its flowers.  The genre is only 50 years old, but it has become the most popular genre around the globe.  Hip-Hop’s influence can be seen in TV, film, products, and even in everyday life!  People dress like rappers and even try to talk like them as well.  With that being said, we need to appreciate the art and artists more often.

Thank You Hip-Hop

This year alone we have so much to be thankful for regarding hip-hop!  A big thank you to Yo Gotti, first off.  He said CM10: Free Game is his last album, which is bittersweet for his fans.  The Memphis rapper has been in the game for decades and has given us great records.  Looks like, he is heading into a new direction by being the head of his CMG label.  He has gathered amazing talent together including Moneybagg Yo, EST GEE, Mozzy, 42 Dugg, and Glorilla to name a few.  We look forward to what else he has in stores.

A big thank you to Snoop Dogg is in order!  Snoop has been around for 30 Summers and this year he has become the owner of Death Row Records.  This is big because Death Row Records is a integral part to the history of hip-hop.  It will be very interesting to see what Snoop will do with the historic label.

It’s always interesting when an artist drops more than one project in a year.  This tells me they are really working and have something to say.  Thank yous are in order for these artists such as NBA Youngboy, Doe Boy, Curren$y, Dave East, Kodak Black, Tee Grizzley, and Boldy James.  I wish more artists did this from time to time.  Another thing, I wish artists did more is to freestyle!  Freestyles are a staple in hip-hop and are still important to an artist’s career.  Thank you to the platforms that allow rappers to showcase their freestyling skills.  This includes Funk Flex on HOT 97, LA Leakers, and Sway’s Universe just to name a few.

Producers & Women

Of course, the songs in hip-hop would be nothing without the producers.  A big thank you goes to all the producers that help bring life to our favorite songs.  Hit-Boy, Harry Fraud, The Alchemist, and ATL Jacob all deserve flowers for their work this year.  Also, we can’t forget the women of hip-hop who have held it down this year.

The ladies have dropped some of the biggest hits this year!  Glorilla & Cardi B dropped “Tomorrow 2” and before that Glorilla dropped “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)”.  Cardi B’s  “Hot Shit” was a big hit this year as well.  Nicki Minaj dropped a few tracks including, “Super Freaky Girl” and “Do We Have a Problem?”.  Coi Leray also tapped Nicki for “Blick Blick”, which gave her another hit this year.  Bia came out with “London” and Ice Spice’s “Munch” is still going viral!  Thank you to the women of hip-hop; keep it going!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  Let us all get together and celebrate family, friendship, and food.
