The Artist Muneer released the new project, “Darkness To Light.” The nine songs supposedly show the Muneer’s pathway through darkness and depression and to the aerial “light.”
What the record definitely does not lack is diversity, both in lyrics and instrumentals. The Artist’s musical arsenal ranges from “Allure” and “Emotions” cloud rap to “Be Alright” blues beat.
The same goes for lyrics, but the excessive eclectics don’t always work out in Artist’s favor. While one might expect a linear “Darkness To Light” story on the record, the range mixtures of emotions appear instead. Despite Muneer himself, almost nothing else really unites the album songs.
On the other hand, concepts of “darkness” and “light” somewhat border The Artist’s experiment field. It mainly shows in the emotional background of the record. The vast part of Muneer’s “Darkness To Light” is about self-reflection and emotional confessions. Unfortunately, the same kinds of self-reflection and emotional confessions have been around since the birth of SoundCloud rap.
What differentiates Muneer from others is the lack of autotune. The low voice adds colors to The Artist’s sadness. Muneer’s roughness gives more levels to his depression, making it emotionally volumed. Instead of pure “autotuned” sadness and depression, one can see anger, uncertainty, even hope sprinkled throughout “Darkness To Light.”

The Pathway Of “Darkness To Light”
Muneer himself also admitted that the new album is not really an album. “It started off as a whole bunch of singles that I was making. I was still trying to find my sound while I was making songs such as ‘The Score’ and ‘Allure,’” The Artist confessed in the press release.
Moreover, for Muneer, the new album is apparently “a way to motivate myself to get these songs done. I knew that they were of no value just sitting in my head, so I chose to put them all on wax.”
The moral is, don’t release something just to remove it from your head.
