The Joyner Lucas Vs. Logic Beef and Royce Da 5’9’s Role in Ending It

Beef between rappers can seem to come out of nowhere and disappear as quickly as they started. It can be hard to tell when an artist is taking a shot at a peer because they use subliminal punchlines and blanket statements most of the time. Other times it is extremely clear that the artist doesn’t like whats going on and says something  specific about it. These battles often end badly for one of the artists, but the fight between Joyner Lucas and Logic got some outside help before they could burn each other to the ground.
It all started when rap legend, Tech N9ne, offered a spot on his song “Siracha” to Logic. Logic accepted but took about 6 months to finish his verse for the song. While Tech N9ne was waiting for Logic, he had the idea to bring Joyner Lucas in for a verse. Joyner finished his verse before Logic and showed his dismay about the whole encounter by remixing Future’s “Mask Off” hit into his own freeverse, “Mask On”. In the song, Joyner specifically targets Logic by stating,

“And don’t you compare me to Logic (never)/Go listen to Sriracha/Yeah, that’s Amanda to Ronda/And that’s a Benz to a Honda/Yeah, that’s a dance with the devil/And I ain’t dancing behind ya.”

Not usually known for his diss-track abilities, Logic responded when he released his sixth mixtape “Bobby Tarantino II”. The project featured a song called “Yuck” in which Logic went back at Joyner without naming him. In the song he says,

“Cats beef with Logic, yeah, they prayin’ I respond/If I ever did, I dead you in this game with no re-spawn/Peace, love, and positivity, that’s all I want with you/But you push the issue ’cause I give you more press than your publicist could ever get you,”.

Joyner took to twitter and roasted Logic for not even calling him out by name. He then mentioned Logic again in another remix he dubbed “Look Alive”.  When the whole thing began to get drawn out, Hip Hop hero, Royce Da 5’9 stepped in and acted as a mediator between the two. Royce sat down and listened both of them extensively and offered some advice that he had learned himself throughout his career. Something that he said resonated with Joyner and made him pick up the phone and call Logic to end the beef. Joyner was actually self conscious about calling and said to Royce beforehand, “Man, you think he’ll get on the phone with me?”, and Royce responded by saying, “Its Logic, man, he’s not like that. Absolutely.”
