‘Punchin’ clock’ song video by J Cole is out

The ‘Punchin’ clock’ music video by J. Cole is the latest off his latest album, The Off-Season.

J. Cole’s sixth studio album, The Off-Season, is his first release of 2021. This is the album’s shortest track. The name of the song might be a reference to NBA star Dame Lillard known for his ” punching the clock” celebration. Lillard plays for Portland Trailblazers.

Cole used an audio clip of Lillard’s legendary after-game interview after the Blazers defeated the Mavericks in the 2020 NBA playoffs.

The video, directed by Scott Lazer, takes a simple approach, with J Cole performing from the back seat of a cab. The setting of New York City gives the video a vintage feeling. J Cole and Scott Lazer collaborated on a similar video for “Applying Pressure.”

The album name is derived after the popular sports phrase “off-season.” The term refers to a period of time when an athlete is not competing in a season.  But, the athlete is still refining their talents and developing their game.

Cole said in an interview with  SLAM Magazine:

“The Off-Season symbolizes the work that it takes to get to the highest height. The Off-Season represents the many hours and months and years it took to get to top form… the offseason is where the magic really happens.”
