It’s ironic that as TI walked his property in a recent interview with The Shaderoom, he was also a walking contradiction in everything he said regarding social media.
TIP said, “Social media is a public pool of opinions.” When asked how he deals with those opinions, he said he focuses on his truth and his purpose.
He believes that public opinion and fantasy of him will never overrule his opinion and fact of himself. TI continued by saying that social media and society have shown us that anytime a Black man is in a position of power to speak on behalf of the community, it will be objected, challenged, and ridiculed. Many were in agreeance with him UNTIL he listed the following to prove his point; Malcolm X, John Africa, and Chairman Fred Hampton.
While TI does his part in the community, activism is not his sole focus, and he is far from the legends he previously mentioned. TIP tends to toe the line between activist and rapper, never fully meshing into one and often putting his foot in his mouth along the way. It’s understood that everyone makes mistakes, but TI needs to realize why the public has such strong opinions of him because he publicly displays his life/missteps on social media.
The activists he mentioned lived in a different time, so their private lives were able to remain confidential to a certain extent. TIP often showcases his ignorance for the world to see, so telling the public their opinion doesn’t matter is a moot point.
It’s excellent that TI has unwavering confidence in himself. Still, someone should let him know that being an activist and being ignorant are not mutually exclusive and that he is the prime example of such a juxtaposition.
Let him know Expeditiously!
