On November 17th, Tidal officially unveiled their rebranded platform, making good on a promise Jay-Z once made.

Jay-Z’s Purpose for TIDAL

According to ommercato.com, Jay-Z once promised other artists he had plans to use the streaming platform as a support base.

Reportedly Jay-Z made a statement back in March saying,

“Artists deserve better tools to assist them in their creative journey I said from the beginning TIDAL was about more than merely streaming music.”

And according to the company’s executive team, the rebranding is a move to make good on Jay-Z’s promise.

 Platform Reformations

The platform’s recent transformations reflect changes to the former pay and subscription model. The move is undoubtedly good news for music fans. As a source reports,

“Like its competitor Spotify, TIDAL will now offer a free tier allowing users to create memberships and try out the experience.”

On the updated platform, subscribers will now have the option of listening to a vast music catalog for free. And those who decide to become paid subscribers have access to more perks.

Support for Artists

What has Tidal done on the artistry side of the equation?

According to ommercato.com, TIDAL head Jesse Dorogusker told Billboard TIDAL is focusing on two big ideas as a support for artists.

But what does that mean?

According to the same source,

“TIDAL is looking to reimagine the industry’s status quo when it comes to artists being properly compensated for their work in the streaming world.”

And if there is interest in exactly how the new system would work, pcmag.com laid it out like this,

“According to Tidal starting in January 2022, we will include a fan-centered royalties’ approach to paying artists within our HiFi Plus tier.”

And this is good news for fans and artists alike.

So props to Jay-Z for keeping the artists in mind and to the board of Tidal for keeping their promise and making music a free option for fans.
