When you associate your brand with a personality, whether someone as famous and recognized as Travis Scott or a micro-influencer with a few thousand followers, there’s always a risk. As the impact of the Astroworld Festival Disaster, which has now resulted in nine deaths, continues to unfold, Travis Scott’s liability in the tragedy remains a question mark. While his music will almost certainly continue to be successful in the long run, his status as a significant corporate face and figure remain in jeopardy.
Following the show, Scott has had to deal with a lot of repercussions. Following the incident, Epic Games’ Fortnite has halted the sale of Scott’s The Out West emote. Emotes are a feature that allows gamers to dance to specific songs via their video avatars. Scott has canceled his performance at Day N’ Vegas, a hip-hop festival set to take place on November 13th.
In addition, fans started a petition to have him removed from the Coachella lineup in 2022. Similarly, the Houston Rockets, his hometown NBA team, have opted to postpone their planned “Travis Scott Day” indefinitely. Instead, the Rockets honored the victims with a moment of silence on the night in question.
Scott is slated to be the face of Dior’s forthcoming spring/summer collection in the coming months. Now, Dior has the tough decision to potentially cancel the entire upcoming collection with Scott. That would definitely be a monumental move for a fashion company just months away from shipping the merchandise to stores.
Travis Scott Faces Pressure as Lawsuits Pile Up
Travis Scott currently faces over 200 lawsuits and counting, affecting more than just his brand deals.
