President Donald Trump seems to think he made ‘Juneteenth very famous’ after the public outcry that stemmed from his campaign information.
Originally his first campaign rally was scheduled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the location of the 1921 Tulsa race Massacre, on Juneteenth or June 19, the celebration of Black emancipation.
This decision was met with complaint and disgust causing him to change his rally date to June 20.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump tried to highlight his campaign and discuss the disasters that have affected our country in the last few months.
However, In Trump-fashion, he made a silly comment.
“I did something good, I made Juneteenth very famous,” Trump said. “It’s actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it.”
He then went on to say, when learning about the holiday, he decided to ‘poll’ those around him.
He concluded that ‘none’ of his peers knew of any historical significance; therefore, no one in the world knew of its existence.
Let’s keep in mine the Black community has been celebrating it since 1865.
In the interview, Trump also said wearing a mask is a political declaration against him, and China may have intentionally caused COVID-19 to spread to hurt our American economy.
Happy Juneteenth!
