At Midnight of March 4th, Kendrick Lamar dropped yet another thought provoking and innovative LP; calling it “Untitled Unmastered”. K Dot did this through none other than his Top Dawg & TDE labelheads, who decided it was time to make good on releasing these eight brand new, completely untitled and unmastered compositions. The only thing that distinguish each track is some sort of encrypted date written as each tracks’ title. This release is by far one of the more random and exciting ones to date. (We like the “go-ahead” releases, right?).
Many K Dot fans tip their hat off to basketball phenomenon LeBron James; seeing as how he influenced the release of this surprise K Lamar album.
Following the powerful, demonstrative performance that took place at the Grammys a few weeks ago, LeBron has since been pulling for Top Dawg to drop new music via Twitter; and not so reluctantly, Top Dawg & TDE camp release this latest untitled, unmastered…….well, masterpiece.
“This collective is really big for the culture and the furtherance of the artist thereof”;
one critic has already said of the album. Kendrick delivers these tracks in the same vein of his prior innovative work, “To Pimp A Butterfly”.
From the very beginning through the end of this album, you feel reconnected to the ideas and teachings of brother Lamar. As a listener, the realness and honesty is familiar but the beats and lyrics are fresh and ready for interpretation. One of the most notable tracks is “untitled 08 | 09.06.2014”. If it were to be given a title, our best guess would be “Blue Faces”. (You may agree after taking a listen). It is a very energetic and funky vibe with K. DOTS “No Punches Held” lyricism he’s known for. Some feel this is the one track TPAB was missing; drawing interest to why Kendrick may have curbed the record until now. The message within the track is powerful but has feel good vibrations throughout. Fans are thankful for the honest effort and musical ensemble TDE and Kendrick have once again put forth.
