Virgil Abloh’s Final Runway Show Held in Miami

Yesterday, Virgil Abloh was supposed to do a runway show in Miami. However, the show continued on, despite his death, becoming a tribute show to the artist’s work, alongside others.  Hosted by Louis Vuitton, a wide range of influential rappers, designers and producers attended the show to pay their respects.

Virgil Abloh passed away Sunday, after battling privately with cancer for over two years. Following the news, Louis Vuitton chairman and CEO Michael Burke revealed his show at Miami’s Art Basel show would still take place.

“As a devoted supporter of his community through his charities and passions, [Abloh] was an eternal optimist who believed anything was possible,” said Michael Burke, chairman and CEO at Louis Vuitton, said in a statement. “In this same spirit, we at Louis Vuitton will proudly continue to celebrate his legacy with a final show in Miami, per his wishes.” Virgil Abloh was Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director from 2018 until his death. He was also serving as the CEO of Off-White after launching the company in 2012.

Abloh’s Show

Several high-profile musicians were in attendance to pay respect to Abloh. This included  Kanye West, Pharrell, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, DJ Khaled, Gunna, Metro Boomin, and A$AP Ferg.

Kid Cudi, Quavo, and Offset also were there to walk the runway. Cudi also performed songs such as West’s “Moon,” David Guetta’s “Memories,” “Tequila Shots,” “She Knows This” and Steve Aoki’s remix of “Pursuit of Happiness.”

Fans saw Kanye West and Pharrell sitting next to each other in the front row. They were enjoying the music alongside everyone else, yet seemingly in a world of their own. Abloh was able to bring these two together to enjoy a moment, as he had so many times before in life.

While Abloh might be gone, he is not forgotten. He will forever be remembered throughout both the music and fashion industry.
