Waka Flocka Flame Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree

Atlanta Rapper Waka Flocka Flame received an honorary doctorate degree over this past weekend in philanthropy and humanitarianism from Bible Institute of American Theological Seminary. The rapper was dressed in cap and gown at a special ceremony held in New York City. He was joined by family and friends to share in this joyous moment. 

Waka Flocka has continued on with his musical career over the years while also continuing his education and becoming a mental health advocate. Waka became an advocate following the unfortunate suicide of his brother, KayO, in 2013. He and his mother developed a foundation titled “No R.I.P” or Reckless Internet Posting, which aims to encourage those who use social media to utilize their platforms responsibly, and ensure accurate information is posting on news sites and much more. Its sole purpose is to rid ourselves of gossip and rumors being spewed at us daily online. Their website states:

“When you gossip and spread rumors and recklessly post about people’s lives, you are speaking death – killing their spirits, killing their reputations, killing their relationships, killing their hope and so much more.”

The presenting faculty notably recognized Waka and his mother for all of their efforts thus far within the community and with No R.I.P while presenting the rapper with his degree. 

Along with his family and friends being proud of him, other rappers too left their sentiments. Lil Yatchy took to his Instagram and in a one minute clip, expressed how happy and proud he was of Waka and how it was inspiring as a black man to witness this. 

Waka Flocka Flame is now amongst the list of other artists who, too, have received doctorates. This list includes Missy Elliot, Justin Timberlake, P. Diddy, Kanye West, and more.
