Will Smith climbed the Burj Khalifa for his Youtube Original workout series “Best Shape of My Life”.
On the second episode of his Youtube Original Series, Smith is struggling to lose the desired weight while also writing his autobiography, “Will”. It ends with him going to Dubai and climbing to the top of the Burj Khalifa.
“Dubai fits my personality,” Smith says via confessional. “It just speaks to how I see the world, how I see life. If you’re gonna build a building, are you really not gonna try to build the Burj Khalifa?”
The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. It is over half a mile tall. Construction began in 2004, and the building was opened in 2010. It has 160 floors with 2,909 steps in the stairwell. There are also ladders to go even higher. Smith had decided that he was going to go to the very top.
Will Smith’s philosophy
There is a psychologist in the series who explains that Smith will do anything that he sets his eyes on due to his upbringing. As a result, when he got to the top of the stairs and realized that it was only about halfway up the building, he became disappointed. The crew then got the safety equipment and Smith continued on his way and eventually made it to the top.
Throughout the video, Smith is making an allegory about achievement. “You don’t try to build a wall. You don’t set out to build a wall.” Smith continues. “You don’t say ‘I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built.’ You don’t start there. You say ‘I’m gonna lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid,’ and you do that every single day, and soon you have a wall.”
